“Nasty, campfire, obviously.” But I get her to giggle, and I enjoy those moments where I can make her happy, and she makes me happy without having to put in the extreme effort.

We just simply exist.

“Aphrodite was supposedly born in Cyprus. The beach below is rumored to be where she rose from the water where we were before. It is claimed a playground for the gods. Many believe the rocks are shaped in her image. Wait, I saved the best for last. This is a hot spot for honeymooners, Goddess of Love’s home.” I wiggle my eyebrows at me, but she just laughs. “Look, see someone has been blessed by the goddess herself tonight.” Down on the beach, a man is now on his knee, and a woman is fanning her face.

“Awe, gag me. I swear, if you try to pull any of that romantic shit on me, if you ever propose, I will say no, respectfully.”

“Well, there goes my plans for the night.”

“I’m serious, Enzo, all those flower petals, champagne, tiki torches. If you want to marry someone, it shouldn’t be adorned with ornaments to make you look better. I would rather you beg me to save your sorry ass from being single while bleeding out from a gunshot wound.” Phoebe lifts a finger and shoots it at me. “Bang!”

“Let me get this straight, when I propose you want me to be dying?”

“Dying makes a person think about what is really important in life.” She uncaps her water bottle and takes a long swallow.

“You’re a freaky girl.” As I take a drink of my own water.

“Yeah, but you kind of like it.” She says through chomps of food. I mean, I can’t disagree with her.

We chat a bit more about how the blue sky kisses down on the ocean. How when they meet, it’s more than a handshake of friendship. They flirt with each other and the water swirls dances into ripples. This is a place we might reminisce about forever.

Our place, I tag it.

We may not have her professional camera, but there is no way I am missing a chance to snapshot this moment. We huddle together and take fifty silly pictures, and I catch her natural smile, the genuine laughter on a short video.

A yacht nearby starts blaring music, and we decide to dance. Phoebe pouts her lips, and she shakes her shoulders at me, dipping one side and then the other. Our hands go out to our sides wide before meeting each other above our heads. I laugh as I spin her around, and damn, I can’t say it enough, but I am deeply in love with this woman.

A good fuck; I hope she is crazy about me as much as I am about her.

We turn our backs and shake our butts against each other. There is a carefree vibe, and we are moving to the motion of the music.

“Do you hear that, Phoebe?” I bring her in and move our bodies at the same time. I put one hand on her hip, and the other holds her palm.

“What?” She looks around for a new noise.

“It’s right here, Phoebe; it’s the good echoes.” I bring my face lower to kiss her lips. A smile grows as we deepen the kiss, but my words are true, and she knows it too.

Ishouldbenervous.

I should be rolled into a ball of anxiety.

But what I am, is excited.

“They promised they would be cool.” Enzo reaches over to squeeze my hand. I smile sweetly back at him.

“I am glad they did because I didn’t promise to be anything other than awesome.” My smile grows wider, showing my teeth.

“Dear God, help me.” Enzo covers his face; I can feel the worry wafting off him.

“I don’t think God is allowed to help non-believers.”

“You would think he would help them gain more followers.” Enzo doesn’t look up from his lap.
