“You’re shittin’ me. You know that most of the world’s drinking age is like eighteen?”

“But it’s twenty-one here.”

“We’re not going to card you.”

“My grandma never had any about the house, and I just never developed an interest.”

JD looks over at Amy, who shrugs. He hands her a glass. “Well, this is good stuff. We got to break you in. You’re missing out.”

“She should start easy,” I say. “Like with wine coolers.”

JD shivers in disgust. After passing me a glass, he tries one last time. “You sure you don’t want to give it a try? This particular bottle costs three or four thousand.”

“Holy shit!” Amy exclaims. “So I’ve got like five hundred dollars’ worth of alcohol in my glass here?”

“More like two-fifty.”

Amy stares closely at her glass. “OMG.”

“I’m good,” Bridget says.

“Are you sure?” Amy asks her friend. “You’re not in the least bit curious? I’ve never had anything so expensive go into my stomach before.”

“I wouldn’t be able to appreciate it fully.”

JD continues to stare in disbelief at Bridget.

“She’s good with her drink,” I say.

Amy takes a sip of the baijiu and looks like she’s ready to cry. “Holy shit.”

While Amy reaches for a cup of water, JD looks at the bottle. “Guess the proof on this one is higher.”

“Help yourselves to the dim sum,” I tell the women.

While they collect their food, I down my baijiu. It’s not a sipping drink. American news anchor Dan Rather supposedly said it tasted like “liquid razor blades.”

A few minutes later, Amy is giggling while JD bites a dumpling off her chopsticks.

Bridget sits in a chair across from me with a small plate of food and chopsticks. “This dim sum looks amazing,”

“The forks are at the end of the table,” I let her know.

She raises a brow at me. “You think that just ’cause I’m not Asian, I don’t know how to use chopsticks?”

“I find most people who don’t grow up using chopsticks prefer the easier utensil.”

She slips the pair of sticks into her hand with ease, picks up a dumpling, and pops it into her mouth. Her eyes light up.

“Nice,” I admit. “You’re actually holding the sticks properly.”

She swallows. “I won’t say it didn’t take me a ton of practice. When I was little, I went to a daycare in Chinatown. Everyone else there was Chinese except for me and one other kid. I was fascinated with chopsticks. I mean, you can’t pick up a single grain of rice with any other utensil.”

Chopsticks are more useful than forks in BDSM, too.

“By the way, that dumpling was…wow,” she says.

She tries the shumai next. She chews slowly, savoring each bite. I sit and watch, slightly fascinated by her reaction. If this is how she responds to food, what does she look like when she’s having an orgasm?
