That guy is Denton. What are the chances?

Denton - Eighteen years old

The first time I fell in love, I was eighteen years old. Brianna Kent stood under the bleachers watching Kevin Bailey make-out with Anika whoever-the-fuck. I didn’t get why girls went all gaga over the football Captain. He’s good looking, yeah sure, but he’s a prick. He uses girls, just like he’s using Anika now. Everyone knows he is fucking every girl on the cheerleading squad, but the girls still drool over him like Brianna Kent is right now.

I’ve watched this girl for a year straight. Not in a stalkerish kind of way. She fascinates me, but I never got the nerve to go up and talk to her, and that is strange for me. I have never been afraid to approach a girl. But there was something about Brianna that made her almost untouchable. Girls like her don’t speak to the bad boy sort. At least that's what the school thinks of me, and I don’t bother correcting them.

Brianna isn’t like the other girls. That’s the thing I like the most. I’ve fucked a few girls in my time, but I don’t want to fuck Brianna. Well, I do, but not until I get to know her. I have to get to know the girl who always has her nose stuck in the book, writing in that notebook she carries around, and the girl that has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. The first time I saw Brianna, she played her guitar under the bleachers, some song about angry scars and internal wars. I listened, and I loved every word. It resonated with me.

And then my opportunity came. Like the heavens opened up and sent that downpour just for me. And then I entered the friend zone because I thought that would be the best way to show her who I really was. How fucking wrong was I?

And now she’s standing a few feet away from me, in a gold bikini, looking like a Goddess, but the situation is all wrong. The girl standing next to her is the one I’m here to see, the one I’ve fallen for over the last few months: Savanna Julius, my new girlfriend.

“Hi, I’m Brianna,” she greets, a smile on her face that doesn’t reach her eyes. So, she hasn’t told her best friend that we’re friends.

“Denton. I’ve seen you around school,” My eyes hold hers. Forest green eyes with a hint of gold when she’s mad. She’s angry now.

“And I’m Savanna,” Savanna giggles, throwing her arms around me. Bre looks away, her arms folded around her middle. “I am so glad you’re here, babe.”

Savanna and I met online, we chatted for a while without knowing what either of us looked like. I was looking for a distraction, and she was just that. She is smart and funny, and it was easy to fall for her. We started calling and using Facetime. I even drove to her school to see her a couple of times. So here we are, three not so strangers.

“I should leave you guys to catch up,” Bre says, already starting to walk away. Her long black hair is wet, probably from their swim, and she’s got sand on her legs. I watch her ascend the stairs. I can’t help but watch her. Watch her is what I did for months until she went and fucking got herself in trouble. My fists clench at the thought of another man laying a hand on her. That he almost-

“Denton, are you alright? You seem upset.”

I take a deep breath. I have to forget this stupid whatever it is, with Bre. This girl right here is the whole package, and she’s interested in me, unlike her best friend.

“My dad is gonna fire up the grill. Wanna settle upstairs?”

“Sure, that sounds like fun, babe.”

I have never been one for pet names, but Savanna loves them, so I use them to make her smile. She leads me upstairs, and when we’re in the hallway, she backs me up against a wall. She gets on her tiptoes and places a kiss on my lips. “I have wanted to do that since I saw you.” She smiles against my lips.

I wrap my arms around her, deepening the kiss, my hands tangling in her wet blonde hair. My hands roam down her body until they cup her ass. She presses up against my erection. Fuck, this summer is off to a good start. We break apart at the slamming of a door.

“Sorry, did I disturb you, lovebirds?” There’s an iciness to Bre’s voice.

“Not at all,” I smirk. “We can pick this up later, right, babe?”

Savanna’s cheeks turn pink. She bites her lips, though, and I know she still wants it. She winks at Bre. “I should rinse off this sand too. Babe, your room is opposite Bre’s, and I am just next door.”

I nod, kiss her neck, and she walks down the hall, disappearing into her room.

Bre and I stand and stare at each other for what seems like an eternity—a stand-off. Bre’s white knitted bikini bra and white shorts do everything for her sexy body. My eyes move down her body of their own accord. She’s the first to make a move, opening the door to her room and stepping inside. I wedge my boot between the door frame before she can slam it. I step into her space, and she backs away. I shut the door behind me, leaning against it.

“What do you want to say, Bre?” I ask.

“I don’t have anything to say,” she stands up straighter. There is defiance in her eyes, the same kind of fucked up defiance I loathe.

“I didn’t know she was your friend,” I say.

“I don’t give a fuck.” She hisses.

“Neither do I.”

“Then what are you still doing here?” There’s a break in her voice, a small shatter in that facade.
