He kicks the ground, and we pause a little. “I’m glad. I don’t want to have to live in two houses.”

I walk over to him and hug him close. “That isn’t going to happen.”

He looks up at me, and I swear at that moment that I’ll do whatever it takes to keep that promise. Even walk away from Brianna.

Imiss him so much it hurts. He fills my dreams and every waking thought. He’s been the man behind every love song. He’s been the man behind every hurt song. It hurts to love someone you can never have. He may have loved me, but I would always be theotherwoman. Why would I choose to be someone’s second, again?

Nate’s been good to me. He’s even seems happy about the baby, but there is something there now, a Chinese wall between us that neither of us tries to break down.

I stand on the balcony and look at the beautiful view of the park. I love spring time the most, the way the colors come to life in front of me. I take a sip of the disgusting concoction my mother insists I drink every morning.

“Today is going to be a good day, little one,” I say, rubbing my baby bump, which at six months is absolutely cute. I have a maternity shoot planned for a week from now. Capturing every special moment is all I want to do. I’m going to be a mother, I think, a smile playing on my lips.

I feel a sharp pain just under my stomach. The doctors say that it’s normal, my body adjusting and growing. I go inside to rest on the lounger anyway. Picking up one of my maternity books, I search through it for suggestions on how to deal with pain.

The next wave hits me pretty hard and actually has me crying out, a cramp clawing at my back and abdomen. This doesn’t feel normal to me. When I feel wetness form between my legs, Iknowthis is not normal.

I reach for my phone and dial Nate, to be met with his voicemail. I call his office.

“Nathan Julius’s office, Tatum speaking, how may I assist you?”

“Hi, Tatum,” I say, slightly out of breath. “Could you get Nate on the line?”

“Uhm...Mrs Julius,” She answers, sounding flustered.

“Kent.” I correct her. Yeah, I’m one of those women who didn’t take her husband’s last name.

“Mrs Kent...Mr. Julius is in a meeting with Mr. Hughs right now and has asked not to be disturbed.”Parker.

“Well, it’s kind of an emergency.” I let out a cry as more fluid gushes out from me. “Fuck it. Just tell him that when he’s done fucking Parker, he should get to the hospital because I think I’m losing our baby.”

I cut the call. I try to stand, but I am too light-headed.

I scroll through my contacts. “Hey lovely,” Anna answers cheerfully.

“I need you to come over. Something’s wrong with the baby. I’m bleeding and-”

“I’m on my way.” She cuts the call.

Half an hour later, we’re weaving through traffic, and I am struggling to hold in the cries of agony as the pain courses through me.

“Just breathe, babe, we’re almost there.”

I do as she tells me. Breathing. Praying. Hoping.

She shouts for a porter when we arrive at the hospital. In a few seconds, I am being wheeled through the emergency unit. Anna barks orders at everyone, and I am taken to a triage room.

A nurse with curly red hair walks in and closes the door behind her. She takes my vitals, and I convey what’s been happening. She offers me a robe to change into, and Anna helps me get it on. The room is chilly and smells of antiseptic. A doctor joins us a couple of minutes later, and the nurse steps out, returning with those sonogram machines.

“How’s the pain now, Mrs. Kent?” He asks. He’s an older gentleman with a friendly face and a round middle. “I’m Doctor Williams, and I’m the obstetrician on call.”

“It’s still there, hurts like hell. Out of ten, I’d give it a ten.” I let out a squeal.

He takes a look at my chart. “Okay, I’m going to just pull your robe aside a bit so we can do a quick scan. Let’s see what's happening with this baby of yours,” he says gently. He reminds me of Anna’s father, kind, and even when he doesn’t smile, you think he is.
