A part of me knew why, which was why it was so easy to answer them.

“The meeting wasn’t made by Nathan,” I muttered. “It was requested by Alpha Shade himself.”

“Wait,” Fynn and Felix said in unison as they shook their heads. “Your father is in a coma. Everyone knows that.”

“Alibi,” Wallas interrupted. “All of that was an alibi.”

“What?” The Beta Commanders were clueless as to how this entire thing was a setup, and could I blame them? Sometimes I wondered who trained Travis Baker to be such a skilled con artist, but with the tick of the clock and my spiraling mind, I was beginning to understand who his mentee had to be for him to be so great at such a youthful age.

I bet Father enjoyed training that bastard to be his prodigy rather than his own son.

“Alpha Shade never wanted to sacrifice Lexianne,” I said loud and clear. I’d expected their surprised speechlessness because the truth was rather wild. Alpha Shade was known to never make mistakes.

Every action was precise, accurate, and conducted at the exact moment it had to be triggered to achieve the ultimate level of perfection needed to rid of his enemies and remain on top. He wouldn’t make such a silly mistake unless it was in his best interest to feign imperfection.

And I aimed to fuck that all up.

“Nathan took the initiative as newly appointed Alpha to get rid of Lex,” I revealed cautiously, though the tone of warning was absent from my voice. I needed to lead them on—to observe their reactions to the clues I was laying out for them. Whatever was brewing in this moment of time would determine if I could potentially reveal what I’d been hiding for years.

At least before Lexianne somehow managed to stumble upon the truth.

“That…” Felix pouted his lips. “Makes no sense. She was his fated mate.”

“And if it wasn’t Alpha Shade’s intention to sacrifice her, why would Nathan suddenly make that decision?” Fynn questioned as he crossed his arms. “And why would they then try to work with Fox Moon Pack? He got rid of that Derrick dude. That’s what we heard while we were doing a quick investigation while Lex was in the forest. He was sent off to aid Outcast Hollows Pack, and he killed the powerful healer. None of those actions make sense.”

That was the point.

“But they do,” Wallas muttered, those golden-orange hues solely on me.“Derrick was the next one to be sacrificed.”

“Huh?” Felix and Fynn said in unison.

If only that Beta were here to hear the truth of the matter. I was sure Killian would have told him upon his arrival that fate had somehow landed him in the hands of Outcast Hollows Pack instead of the clutches of Demon Valley, but would he believe Nathan was involved in sparing his life?

Does it even matter?

“His finalized documents were in the middle of the pile of paperwork you retrieved on the investigation. He’s already been accepted into Hollows, but it’s apparently temporary,” Wallas revealed.

“Temporary?” Felix inquired.

“Why would Derrick be sacrificed? He was the Beta. He was loyal to Nathan. That wasn’t even questioned. He’d speak with other packs to get intel, but nothing more. That’s what we’ve learned since we began monitoring the pack members in Shade Pack,” Fynn elaborated.

“You’re correct,” I responded. “It was between him and Lauren.”

“What?” Now they were all confused. “Lauren’s not a part of their pack,” they said in unison.

Unravel the truth and assess their reactions. Will they defy me by breaking their loyalty?

“Lauren is a part of Shade Moon Pack,” I announced.

“Alpha, that makes no sense,” Fynn stated with a conflicted face. The fact that he was so confused proved how mind boggling all of this was, but that was always the plan, and this proved that my actions over the last five years hid the truth.

“Didn’t you say Lauren was your ex-mate’s sister?” Fynn brought up.

“Laura Marie Fox. Theonlydaughter of Fox Moon Pack. She was the mate who rejected me and encouraged my sacrifice. Little did she know, she’d be sacrificed as well. That’s exactly why Laura’s here, waltzing around my valley and saying she’s the Lady Luna of the pack.”

The betraying bitch of an ex-mate.

Why did I have to be destined to a woman who would plot against me at the first offering of power? There wasn’t even a hint of hesitation when the secret meeting commenced to take me out, and if Mother Moon hadn’t called merciful Karma to come spin the tables, that cunt would have gotten exactly what she craved for herself and her Fox Moon Pack.
