It’s time for us to be lovers… and this time around, not even my father will steal that away.

Mafia Demon Status

“Is this Italian leather?”

The question engaged the questioning eyes of mate as he further arched an eyebrow my way.

“Why do I feel like you’re insulted?”

“Russian leather is better,” I huffed and crossed my arms over my chest like I needed to make a damn point. “Italian is cheaper, and from the interior look of this car, no way should they be using such design when you probably paid a premium price.”

Honestly, I was just running my mouth to stop myself from being a nervous wreck, but the idea of some fucker taking advantage of my Alpha—err… mate, since he did tell me to call him just Malifer—ground my fucking gears.

Which means someone has to die.

Malifer stared at me for a long moment. “My demon believes you’re plotting someone’s murder.”

That had me grinning. “All I need is the manufacturer’s name and I’ll know exactly who ripped you off. Bonus points if they’re a shifter. I’ll throw them in the valley on purpose.”

“All because they used Italian leather?”

“Yes.”Did I stutter?“Just because you may have plenty of money due to being an Alpha, that doesn’t mean someone should take advantage and cut corners on.”

“Sir Malifer.” The driver decided this was the best moment to interrupt. “Shouldn’t you just tell her the car was free?”

I pouted my lips and side-glanced at the Creator of Darkness to see the mischief in his eyes before he replied to the driver, “When she goes on nervous tangents, it's fascinating and cute to observe.”

The scowl I gave him had the car being enveloped in a blanket of frost in mere seconds, which left him chuckling before he leaned in to whisper with that sinful Alpha voice of his,“Don’t be like that, Sweet Lex. Your anger just turns me on more.”

“Fuck off,” I snapped and pushed his face literally out of my personal space. I was surprised he didn’t try to punish me for my actions, but the fucker knew why I was acting the way I was and that just aggravated me even further.

With a frustrated huff, I turned my full attention to the dark trees, as Malifer’s driver—Romeo—waited for the confirmation that we could enter the road that would apparently port us from the shadowlands of the valley right into the city traffic without being the most random, mind-blowing shit an individual could see.

From how Malifer explained it, Demon Valley may be positioned below where Shade Moon Pack was, but the valley itself extended a ton, especially over the recent two years with the sacrifices doubling in nature.

The expansion benefited him in power, but it made it far more difficult to just leave to do errands with a car. That was why he had his private driver, Romeo, who not only used to be an assassin wolf for some northern pack before he’d been sacrificed by “accident”—like how the fuck do you accidentally sacrifice the wrong fucking person—and managed to survive the valley and become Malifer’s driver.

He wasn’t as close to Malifer as Felix and Fynn, or at least that was the vibe I got, but he was trustworthy enough to introduce me as the new Luna of the pack. Even that felt a tad weird, but then again, the marks on our necks confirmed that we were bonded mates—again—which offered me the guaranteed role of Luna.

How the pack will react to having me as their Luna, however? I have no fucking clue.

I wouldn’t worry about it until we got back. For now, I had to focus on what was ahead which potentially could be a showdown because our secrets were about to come out to our prime enemy.

Alpha Shade is going to finally find out that Malifer is alive and well. Bonus points for seeing that I’m not dead. Now we have to do that while attempting to figure out Goldibitch’s true intentions in luring me out for Alpha Shade while Alpha summons Nathan to go along with this apparent scenario of wanting an alliance with Lauren—or our masked ally, the Tainted Time Keeper.

It felt like a bit too much to wrap my head around right now, especially with how tired I still was. Never would I have fallen asleep so easily in Malifer’s presence otherwise, and yet the moment the others had left, my eyes could no longer stay open.

The nap was surely short and thankfully not riddled with nightmares, but waking up to Malifer kneeling before me did unexpected things to me. It started with longing, where I pondered what life would have been if his father wasn’t a cynical bastard of a con artist. Would we still have our abilities to let our Astras roam freely in this world while we took care of the serious business of our dark times? Surely Demon Valley wouldn’t have existed, which meant all those who were a part of our pack would have been slain because of their flaws, inconsistencies, and weaknesses. So many potential powerhouses would have just been murdered like their lives meant nothing, which only made me wonder if more would have been kidnapped and experimented on.

I hadn’t brought up that part of my life yet, and maybe Malifer sensed it but didn’t want to push me. Clearly, revealing I couldn’t conceive did a number on him, and deep within, I’d accepted that he would have pushed me away for it.

The circle of life revolved around children. Now that I’d given it up, would he still think of me as valuable? It hadn’t been a big deal back then because I’d accepted the chances of dying at some point in my solo journey to protect Nathan from the same fate as Malifer.

My lack of memories wasn’t going to stop me from being selfless, and though I’d been mocked for the level of empathy I showed in this form and my Astra form, I didn’t regret it now that I’d reached the finish line.
