We shared a look, the intense stare reminding me of multiple things:the new mark on my neck that burned in excitement, the red silk bandages that Malifer expertly wrapped around the wounded flesh so it wouldn’t draw any unnecessary attention to me, and how turned on I was just from sitting on his lap.

I’d had the intention of pressing my hands on his chest to start my adventures of locating his gun, but my hands completely disobeyed as they pressed slightly above his groin where his zipper was.

He further stilled while his nostrils flared in anger, but I knew it was the complete opposite of what he was really feeling.

I’d almost forgotten what it was like to be bonded to another.

How difficult it was to train myself to ensure my emotional spikes during those torturous nights would never reach his end of our funneled connection. Master Gaia had helped me as well, teaching me ways to use my gifted elements to create a null layer that coated the emotional tunnel so he wouldn’t sense the agony I was going through.

I wasn’t perfect at it in the beginning, which in turn would leave Nathan in a panicked rush as if he’d just had a nightmare, but he’d never understood where it initiated.

I’m sure he understood now.

This new circumstance may have felt even weirder for Malifer since Nathan was still playing his role as temporary Alpha Shade instead of returning to Malifer so they could be “one unit” even for a few hours or days.

I didn’t refer to my Astra as an entity per se because we weren’t separated for long enough to give each other actual names. I honestly was fine with Lex from Malifer and Lexi from Nathan, but I wouldn't admit that just yet.

Malifer’s hand gently touched my cheek, the action so unexpected from him. I didn’t flinch because I wasn’t frightened of him, but it did surprise me enough to make my eyes widen. He trailed those fingers along my cheek to my chin, and then even more tenderly down my bandaged neck.

No matter how many times I suggested it, he wouldn’t let me use magic to cover it up. It was like he wished for our enemies to see the damage his own father had dared lay upon his fated mate.

To force his father to realize he knew everything that was done to me.

My only concern was how we would get the advantage in this apparent deal. Obviously, Imposter Lauren was actually on our side, but would it be smart to have an alliance with the Fox Moon Pack?

Unless we got Laura back to Demon Valley, things could get ugly with confusion and the truth of our imposter would fuck things up. We did have an advantage though. Laura was more focused on using Momo as bait than reclaiming the position as the only heir to her pack.

Distraction is key in times of turmoil.

It would be good to take my own advice—the burning need to distract my spiraling mind from our approaching confrontation would eat me alive if I didn’t focus on what was in front of me.

A very sexy distraction.

You Drive My Body Insane

My body was a mess of tingles as his hand trailed from my neck down the front side of my bare chest where he admired my cleavage. I bet he wasn’t even paying attention to what the man was saying on the other end, or maybe he simply didn’t care anymore, for it only took a few seconds after his eyes met mine once more for him to suddenly hang up and toss the phone to the seat I’d previously been sitting in.

Then we were kissing.

He pulled me right against him in a blink of an eye, our lips crushing one another’s like we desperately needed each other to take our next breath of oxygen. He groaned in relief as if my lips were the antidote to whatever was eating him alive with his crowded thought process, and I couldn’t help but gasp and moan at his sudden dominance.

I missed this.

The tense friction between us begged to be appeased in this moment of passionate unity, only Malifer didn’t kiss or even move in a way that gave off a sense of caution.

My demon king was all about being in control and possessively dominating his interest until they were begging for more.

“Alpha,” I moaned into his mouth when I got a chance, and the way he growled and pressed me even further against him confirmed he loved when I acknowledged the power he carried as the true Alpha of our pack.

“Be careful, Sweet Lex,” he growled in pure warning as his eyes of brown were now darkened sets of ruby. “I won’t hesitate to fuck you here.”

“I mean, you could?” I offered with a devilish grin. “But that would get blood on your cheap seats. That wouldn’t be nice. Even if this car was free.”

He rolled his eyes and peered over my shoulder as if he sensed Roman’s pure amusement.

“Give us a moment, Roman,” Malifer instructed while those menacing red orbs were back on me. “Only roll that glass down when we’ve reached our destination.”
