Showtime And Luna’s Pet: Part One

“Aren’t you going to give me the four-one-one before we enter?” I questioned the moment Malifer helped me out of the car with his offered hand.

I expected him to let go, but he simply squeezed my hand and tugged me to follow his lead as we walked past a row of bowing men in black suits.

Oh shit. This is the real mafia treatment in the middle of the busy streets of Hollow City.

The sight of the men in all black only got a few quick glances from bypassers, but they swiftly hurried along as if they didn’t want to be caught checking us out.

They were the true definition of minding your own business.

We walked straight into an alleyway, our strides swift and precious while the energy around us seemed to chill exponentially. I peered just slightly to my right to acknowledge Malifer and the shift in his entire energy.

It was as if he’d walked through a doorway and become a ruler walking through a city filled with his subjects. I was sure this was my time to shine in my badassery like I enjoyed doing, but after our frisky car ride, I felt like I’d tapped out on my overpowering confidence and needed a moment to be a follower instead of a leader.

Guess my Astra side was oozing into my energy which I had no problem with.

The spark in shadow magic caught my attention as the hairs on my arms began to rise, but I knew the shift came from Malifer as I watched his clothes completely change—as did mine.

We were still walking down this long-ass alleyway, but we didn’t miss a single beat even as our attire shifted to something even more formal and exquisite.

Malifer was now wearing a completely red suit with black trimming while his hair was now striking white and gelled back to emphasize his sophisticated look. His suit fit his chiseled frame perfectly, tailored to emphasize every detail in the fine fabric that reflected the Gucci imprints in black that multiplied all over the suit jacket.

Noticing his jacket prompted me to peer at my own attire, which left me surprised to see the immense pop of color in my new outfit. I wore a dazzling red dress made up of rhinestones that twinkled vibrantly under the dim lights of the alleyway.

My feet, which had previously been in sandals, were now in six-inch heels that I was positive were from some exquisite brand with how fucking comfortable they were.

If your heels are comfy like fluffy clouds, they had to be at least three grand. Unless they were Christian Louboutins. Those heels are simply for a three-step show: twirl, picture for the Gram, and back on the shelf they went. At least, that’s what they say in all those fashion magazines.

The dress was strapless and hugged me like a damn corset. I wasn’t complaining because my shape was like Lola the Bunny from that classic cartoon. Cinched waist, perfectly lifted breasts, and my incantations were only contributing to the dangerous vibes we were projecting as a power couple.

Oh shit. We’re a power couple, aren’t we? We’re actually walking in public, hand in hand, and about to face his father, Goldibitch, Baker, and whoever else is on the betraying block. Damn. This is kind of empowering.

Before I could attempt to panic about the sudden realization that my change of outfit meant my security jacket would be gone from my shoulders, I took a quick check to confirm it was still there. It was, which gave me a sense of relief.

I’ll work on it… after this shit is over with.

My hair was gelled down, every neon pink strand in place and tucked behind my ears with added clips of red rhinestones, but the rest of the lengthy strands were curled perfectly and held a level of volume that made me look like a vintage doll.

I could only imagine what my makeup looked like while I took in the jewelry pieces that screamedyou’re a rich bitch.Obviously, anyone who lived in the forest for the majority of their life knew the few over-the-top brands in various departments, which meant my noob ass knew exactly what a Cartier bracelet, Rolex watch, and Versace necklace looked like.

We were nearing the end of the alleyway before I noticed Xiao’s and Lily’s absence. I opened my mouth to speak, but Malifer was one step ahead.

“They got here before we did which is why the place is warded to block out our shifter traits,” he announced and went back to answering my first question. “And the plan is simple. We arrive and make an obvious power play as an entrance, which will force my father to reconsider Nathan going through with this apparent alliance.”

I couldn’t help but squeeze his hand as my feet came to a stop. That only forced him to pause before he looked over his shoulder at me. His intense gaze didn’t seem upset that we’d stopped, but I needed to understand what the dos and don’ts were in the city.

“Does this ward affect you?” I had to question before I elaborated with, “Can you not use your wolf or demon side?”

“I can use them just fine,” he confessed and actually smirked at my question. “These wards weren’t made for me.”

“Oh.” It clicked. “Right. You’re dead and I’m the ‘I hope that bitch is dead but just in case let me ward this entire block against her for my own sanity’ girl. Right.”

“You’re understanding what a threat you apparently carry.”

“I’m unsure whether I should be offended or pleased by such honors and effort put into my potential arrival,” I voiced. “Aren’t you worried about Laura and Lauren meeting?”

“Hmm?” He gave me his full attention as he turned to fully face me. Our height difference was still obvious with me standing at 6’3” with my heels versus his 6’8” height. He tugged at me just slightly, the force enough to encourage a single step forward that landed me in his personal space.
