“Huh? Wait. You can’t say it yet! I haven’t proved to you that we’re meant to rule and that we’re strong and better than Travis!”

“Told you so, told you so.” Nathan laughed and slipped out of my grasp to give me a wide grin before he whispered, “You’ll be the kind Alpha from the bedtime story Master Gaia talked about.”

“Kind Alpha?” I pouted my lips. “I didn’t get to hear that story.”

“Too bad.” He laughed and smiled from ear to ear. “Told you so.”

He went off running, which left me huffing.

“Hey! Not yet!” I shouted but ended up laughing as I raced after him.

The flashback was gonein a few short seconds, and I watched as Nathan began to smile even though the expression of joy only left me with a shattered heart.

“Told you so.” He mouthed the words we’d just experienced from the flashback, and it confirmed that he was right back then. He saw all the darkness that I was too naive to see with my own eyes. Maybe the Astra I made in hopes of getting my father’s attention was simply trying to protect me from the truth.

I understood why I was such a mockery to the rest of the world.

The blind leading the blind. A boy who thought he could become a hero when he was destined to be a villain like the rest of his family tree.

What a sad ending to what I thought would be a path that led to my earned revenge.

Instead, this was but a dark fairy tale that was never meant to have a happy ending.

“BiBiBo?”

I blinked, as did Nathan, and the two of us glanced over to the table once more.

Momo?

The men looked at the doll in surprise but her attention was solely on Nathan as those knitted eyebrows lifted up in sadness. She then peered over to where I hid, and I was amazed how a doll could shed an ounce of remorse for me compared to all those who let me down in this lifetime.

“Bi… Bi… Bi…” Her hollow lip trembled and I knew without a doubt the doll was going to cry. “BIIIIIIII!”

Lauren and Laura flinched at the minor sound that was so highly pitched it could surely shatter glass. I wished to have the ability to just cover my ears from the screeching sound, but I remained in my frozen state .

“Fucking hell. Shoot that doll!”

“It’s so damn loud!”

“Fuck! Shoot it, dammit!”

“I can’t!”

“What you mean you fucking can’t?! SHOOT IT!”

“I can’t move!”

The admission seemed to contribute to the sudden flickering of the remaining lights above us, as if a storm were brewing outside and threatening to cut the power entirely.

“Shit. I can’t move!” another guard noted.

“Boss! We can’t fucking move!”

“What? Shit! Shit, shit, shit. I can’t move either! We’ve only got three minutes before the bomb goes off! What’s stopping us from moving?!”

“Boss! Your neck! Something’s poking your neck.”

“What? Wait. You have it too!”
