“She’s a voodoo doll!” Lauren gasped in horror. “You can’t speak of such things to her!”
“You’re making it seem like she’s reverted into a kid,” Colton dryly noted.
“How would you know if she has or hasn’t?! You’re a puppeteer.”
“You make it seem like being a puppeteer is a useless qualification, and yet these strings are saving y’all’s lives down there,” Colton argued back. “What do you do?”
“Fuck sinners, steal their energy, cleanse it, and give it to those who need to be healed from disease,” she declared with pride. “Oh, and gamble. That’s my side hustle.”
“Color me intrigued.” Colton whistled. “I like a bit of gambling, and I ain’t a sinner, but if fucking is in the equation, I can show you what these strings can really do.”
“Are you fucking flirting right now?” Nathan groaned in dread. “I’m fucking dying, Laura’s probably dead over there, our fated mate is a voodoo doll and dancing with a damn butcher knife, and my alter ego is still trapped in the shadows in the corner over there, and yet you’re fucking flirting!”
“When the opportunity strikes, you have to take advantage of it, Alpha Nathan,” Colton spoke as if he’d upgraded into a professor. “If you did that earlier, you wouldn’t have gotten your balls kicked.”
“How the fuck do you even know that?!” Nathan snarled.
“Hey, can you guys kill us already?” a guard complained and yawned.
“Right. I swear they say demons are always getting sidetracked and they’re right. Always doing everything but the slaying.”
“I was able to say ten Hail Marys in the allotted time already,” a guard spoke up.
“Aww fuck. I should have prayed too!”
“No one was talking to you fuckers,” Nathan snapped at them in irritation. “We can do whatever we want!”
“Not when wasting our fucking time, fucker!” the boss tossed back.
“Time is fucking frozen, douche,” Nathan countered.
“You’re lucky I’m frozen or I would have shot up that empty brain of yours so I could prove you don’t have any knowledge in there.”
“You piece of s—”
“Kikikikikiki!” Voodoo Lexi went back to dancing but I noticed her balance was off.
Oh no.
“LEX!” My voice boomed a second before our fated voodoo doll’s knife outweighed the rest of her body, which caused her to fall off Laura’s shoulder.
“SHIT!” multiple people cursed as Colton screamed, “FUCK!ELADOSA STRINGANDO!”
The spell wouldn’t reach her in time, though the additional threads fought to grab onto the miniature doll before she hit the ground and triggered everything. Her drop was already tugging on the rest of the needles that were attached to the armed men, making them gasp before they were knocked out by the triggered nerve.
I pushed myself forward, but no longer was I in physical form—my energy was now a stream of rushing darkness.l I wrapped entirely around Lexianne just as the strings coiled around me while I triggered the shift of my energy to return into a solid unit.
With a blink, I was back to my original self but I wasn’t holding a voodoo doll in my arms’ grasp. Instead, there was Lexianne in her naked glory, which left my eyes trailing down her hanging frame while my cock twitched in approval.
“Exactly what I fucking said,” Colton heaved. It sounded like it was taking him everything he had to keep us afloat. “Fuck… Alpha… you’re heavy!”
The man had just been preaching about opportunity, and fuck, I was going to do exactly that as I further lifted Lex so she was pressed right against me, and without a second’s delay, my lips slammed into hers.
Aside from her missing clothes—which I’d have to ask about later—she didn’t have a scratch on her, and despite all the fucking mayhem, here she was, in my arms, even though I’d thought I’d lost her to my enemy.
She kissed me right back before her arms were around my neck and tugging me further down so I wouldn’t be able to pull away, our tongues now dominating one another while we got lost in the swirling tornado of relief and pride that fumbled between the two of us.
