Page 57 of Demon Valley Marked

Respawning would be a pain in the ass with the plan I had in mind. Despite my anxious desire to get to the destination that was still quite a distance away in a forest with some of the most forbidden creatures, I’d yet to stray from our part of the valley.

For deep in its depths, it held the cave that carried exactly what I needed.

And there I’d lay my sacrifice before anyone found out the end of my master plan.

All I had to do now was breathe—to remind myself to not get too far ahead in excitement when the prey was still in my eyeline. I swallowed the lump that formed tightly in my throat, the sound practically echoing within the heavy silence of the endless night.

The low growl of the beast made goosebumps prickle along my arms as I held my breath.

Even the Ruler of Demon Valley didn’t have enough power to control some of these creatures, which I was genuinely pleased with for it kept me as humble as I could be.

Having too much power is but a curse many don’t wish to acknowledge until it consumes them.

The creature opened its mouth, revealing what surely were hundreds of teeth and a black tongue that was as sharp as a blade.

Fucking hell, I’m screwed.

I braced for the slick attack as the tongue darted forward, but the pain of a piercing hole in my throat never came.

“BiBiBo?”

Wait a fucking minute…

The creature pulled back, its tongue still hanging out, only it was pierced by a butcher knife.

I can’t even believe it. Was I just saved by my mate’s familiar?

“BiBiBo!” Momo cheered as if she heard my internal thoughts, her doll frame coming to eye level as Zasper and the rest of the fleet of voodoo dolls were in the formation of a tower that was her grand platform.

Another butcher knife materialized in her grasp, the weapon cloaked with intense shadow magic that was enough to make the massive creature move further back into the dark space of the forest.

“BiBiBi!” Momo declared and pointed the butcher knife in the creature's direction. It was like she was declaring a dual, which the opposing monster wasn’t too fond of because it let out a puff of smoke from its large nostrils and retreated into the shadows until its presence disappeared entirely.

I had to sigh in relief as my magic pulled back enough to release me from my own shadowed restraints.

Momo jumped down onto the dark purple bark of the tree I’d been sleeping in. The other dolls came tumbling down and they began to surround Momo in excitement.

“BIBIBO!” she cheered in victory.

“VIVIVO!” the fleet replied and they all began to sing together as they shook their hips.

“I’m not going to ask how you all followed me here,” I muttered and got their attention.

“VIVIVO!” Zasper stood at attention. I obviously couldn’t be mad at them for following me. They were rather instinctive for their kind. I’d hoped they would be more intrigued in watching Lexianne sleep—that was the plan at least—but here they were.

Saving my sleeping ass.

“Who’s watching Lex?”

They paused in their celebrations before they huddled all together. Within a minute, they were separated and Zasper and Momo displayed a detailed picture of Lexianne sleeping in my personal chambers.

While a blue-haired boy sat next to her bed with needles in his hands while strings hung all over the place.

“Colton,” I concluded. “He’s knitting?”

“BiBiBo!” Momo approved.

“I thought he’d get bored of that hobby,” I muttered more to myself and shook my head. “At least he’s warming up to being around Lex. Clearly from the incident, they were able to work together to save the rest of us.”
