“It does,” she declared.

I tried to look her way, but my eyes were barely open. I hadn’t been this sleepy in a long time, which was why those arms of darkness that invited me into the space of slumber were too good to ignore.

“Sleep, Alpha Malifer,” she ordered like a commander who was ready to take over the guard duty for the remainder of the night. “You’ve proven yourself worthy of my assistance.”

I thought of what I’d say in return, but my mind drifted away little by little until threads of my own magic tugged me into the dream world they wished for me to experience.

There was no point in fighting it—the gateway opening another path of what the future could hold.

So I let myself enter the dream world of madness, knowing that I’d be protected by the daemon goddess with her sharpened butcher knife.

Why Are You Leaving Me And Fated Alliance

~LEXIANNE~

“Alpha Malifer?”

I looked at the back of the man in question. His wings that were outstretched retracted into their closed position and pressed right against his muscled frame.

The call of his name encouraged him to look back at me, and how I was pulled into his overpowering appearance. Shirtless, with his wings at his back, a black crown of red and pink jewels was nestled upon his head of white locks.

His muscled flesh held various cuts and bruises as if he’d wrestled a few demons prior to being discovered by me. No matter those wounds, he looked so divine, my heart fluttering in joy while my body hummed in delight.

I craved to be next to him. For my hand to slip into his like lovers until we faced one another, our bodies pressed against each other just like our tender lips.

“Sweet Lex?” His voice should have been forbidden. “Even on my conquest, you come to torment me.”

“Conquest?” I didn’t understand, but I couldn’t stand still any longer. With a few short steps, I was at his side. The two of us turned to face one another and I didn’t fight against the need to touch him—to feel his chilled flesh in hopes this was all real and not an illusion.

My fingers wrapped around his, the tight grip I delivered only making him tug me right against him. His free arm wrapped around me, keeping me captive as his wings were the second layer of protection that cocooned us in his warmth.

I took a deep inhale and let it out, my nostrils picking up on hints of sage, tobacco, and spicy cinnamon, but the absence of cologne made me pout my lips. With a slight lift of my head, I rested my chin against his flesh while he peered down to look into my eyes.

He was so much taller than usual, the height difference making me feel so tiny in comparison to his giant stature, but it didn’t frighten me. Maybe it helped me realize that he could have changed his height just for me.

He tries to hide how sacrificial and considerate he is for everyone else’s comfort.

“You’re not wearing any cologne,” I noted.

“Don’t like it?” he offered with a smug grin, though the expression didn’t reach his eyes that softened. “I normally wear it to hide my real scent.”

“I like it,” I admitted. “It’s just different. I didn’t know you wore cologne to hide your actual scent. I don’t think you need to. Sage and smoke mixed with cinnamon is intriguing. Reminds me of those who meditate. Master Gaia would use those sometimes when we trained to heighten my senses. Makes me feel… powerful and unburdened.”

Using my free hand, I attempted to reach up to his cheek.

“You’re taller, too.” I had to pout. “It’s hot as fuck but I can’t reach your cheek.”

His low chuckle only made my heart clench in sadness, which wasn’t the vibe I should instinctively grasp from a sound that’s supposed to be joyful.

He leaned down just so my hand could brush his flesh.

“Better?” he offered.

“Better…” The word didn’t match my dissatisfaction. “Malifer. Are you okay? You’re… scaring me.”

His smile couldn’t be more heartbreaking.
