“Malifer! I didn’t accept your claim on me just because you were the Ruler of Demon Valley. I accepted and gave you mine in return because I actually love you!” The whole thing just made me angry. “You’re identity doesn’t stem from having power! Those who offer you their loyalty and love do so because it's you! The man who saw through their flaws and gave them a second chance! Do you think Baker can even try to gain any of your demon’s loyalty without a crown? That any of them would even trust him? Look what the con artist fucker did with Laura. Used her for his own manipulative purpose and left her to be shot to death because she isn’t useful anymore. Your pack isn’t like the rest where it's dominant versus submissive. You needed no crown to earn the loyalty of your pack, and that includes my loyalty and love for you! I didn’t… I didn’t go through all that physical and mental fuckery out of power. I did it because I love you… and we promised…” I trailed off as my tears spilled down my face and sobs threatened to escape.

He didn’t stop himself from leaning over and kissing me in return, and how I let my emotions flow right back to him in hopes he could feel what I really felt about him. That he understood that his worth was far greater than he realized.

We may have stumbled and fallen into this mayhem of chaos thanks to the real monsters in this fucked-up world that revolved around power and manipulation, but the one thing I knew for certain was that this man holding me was someone I could love, trust, and keep by my side.

That he’d be nothing like his father which was what they were all so afraid of.

“Malifer,” I breathed against his lips as he broke the intense kiss. “No one else can love me the way you do. The way you use your actions speaks louder than anyone who uses words of deceit to manipulate all those around them. I don’t know how many times I need to say it. How I can show it to you so you understand? Can’t you feel it?” His glassy orbs met mine as we shared an intense look. “Can’t you feel the love I have for you, my mate?”

His tears fell as I noticed the world around us was beginning to fade.

“I can feel it, Lexianne,” he confessed the truth.

“Then fight a little longer for me,” I urged with all my heart. “I’ll find you… and the crowns, and we’re going to find the path that leads us to our happy ending, you hear? We’ll protect this valley. Our valley, no matter if you’re a king or not. No one else is more deserving of the crown than you, but I won’t force you to reign. I want you to feel ready, and if that time never comes, it's okay, as long as we’re happy and we can protect those we love and cherish. We’ll defeat Travis at his own game, and your father will face his own consequences for the sins he’s committed. We’ll find my sister and make alliances with the other Empires that want to take down Baker and anyone else who supports his plans to be some ultimate ruler or whatever world order bullshit they’re planning. We’re going to win this game, and then we can live our happy ever after. I… I may not be the queen or Luna who can give you an heir, but I can give you my heart and vow to always be a loyal mate that will never forsake you. Nothing will pull us apart… not even death. Understood?”

He slowly nodded and I felt his hand press against my stomach.

“I exchanged my rulership to return what you sacrificed.”

I tried to speak as I stared back at him, but his words only further silenced me as I watched him genuinely smile in pride.

“You’ll be able to conceive, Sweet Lex, and you’ll be able to choose to give birth to a child by the man you wholeheartedly love. No one can force you to make an heir. Only you have the final say in your body’s ability to get pregnant. That’s what I requested in exchange for my role as the Creator of Demon Valley,” he revealed and pressed his forehead against mine. “You deserve to be a mother one day… and I love you enough to let go of what’s clearly not favoring the future I wish by giving the opportunity to the woman I trust, who can change our fucked-up world.”

He sealed my lips with his, and when he pulled back, he carried a silly grin.

“So find me, sweet mate, for I won’t be asleep for you to invade my dreams,” he declared. “You have all the help to get you here.”

“Invade your dreams?” I questioned while I still struggled to process the truth—that I can conceive again… that I can have children.“This is my dream that you’re invading.”

“Nope, tainted beauty,” he responded and tugged my bottom lip with his teeth. “You’re the intruder of my dreams, which is why I have control.”

“I-I have control!” I argued. “Um… kiss me!”

He just stared back at me with a cunning grin that left me feeling flustered.

“Ugh! No. You’re playing games with me! Okay. Drop me!”

“Why would I do that?”

“If you drop me, that means you’d lose me, which means this would become a nightmare and you’d wake up because it frightens you.”

“And how does that prove you have control?”

“I don’t—” Then he was kissing me as if he suddenly had to go. “I swear I’m gonna keep waking up to a knife at my throat.”

“Huh?” I didn’t understand. “Knife? Momo isn’t with you.”

The glint of mischief in his eyes told me otherwise.

“I love you,” he whispered unexpectedly.

“W-Why are you confes—”The fucker let go of me.“AHHH!!! MALIFER!”

I watched his smiling image begin to fade like the rest of the world until darkness consumed my vision while my whirling mind tipped back, closer to the pool of unconsciousness.

All I could do was brace for wakefulness, and I knew exactly what I’d have to do to save my man.

To prove a pretty little monster can bite back when provoked by the enemy.
