There was no way of hiding it. My shock was all over my face while my emotions tumbled toward her as if the heartache, anger, and overwhelming sadness could possibly steal those years of torture away from her.

“He tried to kill Alpha…” Felix quietly spoke.

It really was madness, for what had I done to possibly deserve such an unexpected end? More importantly, he’d made it so that Lex would truly be the mocked wolf of the pack.

Wolf shifters thrived off of sex once they reached the age where their mate bonds could unlock, but to preserve herself not because of her role of being a pack healer, but because she was protecting me from the curse he’d placed on her broke my fucking heart.

“There was one condition he knew nothing about, and that was thanks to Master Gaia implementing it behind his back,” she elaborated. “If my fated mate marked me after I reached the fruitful age of eighteen, the collar would shatter and any memories held from my childhood would be returned to me. It would also void the curse set for me and my destined mate, but as an extra precaution, I decided to take it a step further.”

What could she have possibly done to take things further?

“You rejected Nathan on purpose,” Wallas confirmed like a true detective solving the root of the problem.

She twirled her hand in a swirling movement that reminded me of someone about to take a bow, only she leaned forward to give off the same dramatic effect with a sinister smirk.

“Pretty genius for a weak female, don’t you think?” She was so damn proud of herself—like she should be—but did I really want to admit that? I was still trying to process the great lengths my father had gone to to truly set “us” up.

Did he clue in on the fact that Nathan and I are one person?

“I’m sure we could go through the fine details and comb through this case of discovery for hours, but my familiar was voluntarily kidnapped, and I’m not going to let Goldibitch get the satisfaction of getting rid of my second familiar.”

“Second?” Felix and Fynn questioned in confusion.

It was my turn to be as surprised as the others because I couldn’t recall who her first familiar was. It was like one of those sensations where something was on the tip of your tongue, but you couldn’t quite grasp the exact word you were looking for.

“Ah, yes. It would be a good time for brief introductions seeing as things are going to get rather hectic until Alpha Malifer secures his deal.”

The sound of heels clicking against the floor echoed through the atmosphere, which left us all glancing over at the culprit of such an empowering sound. My eyes widened as I watched the individual walk past us and head straight to where Lexi sat on the bed.

My sweet mate’s attention was briefly occupied as she was looking between her leather jacket and the coat I’d laid upon her earlier when her jacket needed to be cleaned from the madness she’d endured in Haven A. It wasn’t a long debate—her decision led her to grab the piece of clothing that she now placed upon her shoulders to match the black dress that hugged her body perfectly.

She uncrossed her legs only to cross them once more, and then she returned her attention to us while this familiar took her place on Lex’s right side. I felt Wallas’s spike of interest without needing to gaze over to confirm my suspicions, and I’d yet to determine if that was a good thing or a fucking bad thing, but this familiar’s looks were impressive.

She had pure white strands and pale flesh that were flawless in nature. She wore a navy blue dress with lace sleeves, and had an aura of significant power that demanded to be respected. I grabbed a feel of the intense healing energy oozing off of her, which confirmed who this woman was.

“Gentlemen, meet my familiar. She’s of light magic, but don’t let that make you believe she’s weak because she’s not.”No shit there. You’d be foolish to ignore the power she carried so effortlessly. It was like staring at a god that had lived upon our lands longer than the creation of humans.

“Good evening,” she responded and bowed. “It’s a pleasure to finally make an official appearance.”

“You’re…” Wallas trailed off which encouraged Lex to carry on for him by introducing her familiar.

“Galiana. Gaia for short. I enjoy calling her Master Gaia because what’s more fun than reversing your roles with another person?” She lightly clapped her hands while her eyes locked on mine once more. “You asked me who I was, and I’m about to tell you, Alpha. But know that no matter what I say, we’re going to go above the surface and retrieve Momo from the clutches of Goldibitch. And you’re going to snag that deal before Lauren gets a chance to steal away all your hard work.”

She always loved to remind me of shit I wished to avoid for my own sanity. That always amused her—this instance was no different—and she took the opportunity to uncross her legs before she rose up to her full 5’10” height.

“My name is Lexianne Monarch. I’m one of the heirs of the Monarch Empire, one of the four strongest mafia groups in Hollow City. I’m sure you’ll have plenty of questions, especially about how I came from an indestructible family of supernatural assassins and landed in the hands of Alpha Shade, a chained monster under his complete control,” she declared with a thick Russian accent.

Her smirk couldn’t be more radiant as her white teeth were on full display.

“All I’ll say is that a specific man was the initial culprit to my unexpected captivity, and his name? His name is Mr. Baker.”

“Baker,” Wallas hissed.

“We’ll worry about that later. Shall we get on with our current dilemmas so we can move on to our next mission?” she offered.

“What is that?” I whispered in annoyance though my eyes were still clearly checking her out. Maybe I wanted the others to think I hated her and that we were really enemies due to her secrecy, but my men weren’t foolish.

I’m sure they can see right through me.
