I stood there, still in shock, as my tears continued to run down my flushed cheeks as my wide eyes took in every demon who bowed down to me like I’d become a god. Even Colton, Felix, Fynn, and Wallas were all on their knees, acknowledging what I’d just committed.

I’d just triggered the blossoming of life.

“The love of two individuals who both dealt with the agony of rejection, loss, and sacrifice will be the conduit of life and rejeventation.”Lily’s words didn’t just hum through my head. They boomed through the very valley itself.“This valley was destined to be just that. My sacrifice, the blood that poured onto the very soil of these lands, was done so in hopes of a new world that would welcome those who’d been outcast from the shadows to benefit another. Who’d done everything to please the world, but in return received nothing but agony and hate. The unity of two rulers was what I hoped would bless this valley, and like Adam and Eve, these two would not only understand one another but cultivate these lands to give the freedom many of you craved to experience when alive. Your loyalty has been seen, and those who wish to betray us will be banished from these lands. May this field be the true mark of Demon Valley and invite the first wave of change within your pack.”

Wallas rose from his knelt position then, and he turned to face me.

“This is the time you need to go to Alpha Malifer,” he encouraged. “Even with the change in circumstances, Gaia informs me Baker is still on the course to the valley.”

I slowly nodded but didn’t feel any fear regarding the news. At least not anymore with this new predicament.

“I’ll take Laura,” I declared. “If Alpha is in a place of forbidden beasts, I’m sure she can come in handy outside of that space. With her with me, the rest of the pack will be safe and I can face Baker head on.”

“By yourself?” Felix spoke up.

“Lexianne. It’s too dangerous to face Baker on your own. Let us come with you,” Fynn stressed, but I shook my head.

“You guys are the only line of defense. It’s best you remain here with Colton. I’m confident in my abilities, and I have Lily and Xiao to back me up. I’ll face Baker alone if I have to,” I emphasized. “But I know I won’t.”

The twinkle of hope in my eyes may have eased their concerns as they both nodded and then half bowed. “We trust you, Lady Heartwell.”

I cringed at the formality. “Ya, no. We ain’t doing that shit.”

Colton laughed and walked up to me, his hands now carrying a thick blanket that didn’t seem like it was woven with yarn. The material was super rich, the strings reminding me of suede, only they carried glimpses of shadow and light magic, which proved this was far more valuable than I realized.

With ease, he wrapped the blanket around me so it rested on my shoulders like a cape.

“There. That’s my gift to you.”

“A blanket?” I inquired.

“It’s multifunctional,” he emphasized. “Keeps you warm, has healing properties, can keep you invisible from the shadow beasts, and it's super comfy to lie on.”

“Why would I lie on it?” I dryly pondered. He made it seem like I was going for a picnic and not on a battle mission.

He chuckled and leaned right in to whisper in my ear.

“You know. To do the dirty.”

I gawked at him as my cheeks flustered at his response, which made him chuckle as he shrugged.

“C’mon. If I’m being saved by a badass, Alpha female, fated mate, I’d be offering this package up in exchange,” he suggested without a hint of shame before he winked. “It’s bloodproof too.”

“Colton,” I groaned, knowing exactly what he was implying. “You’re too much.”

He laughed and gave me a proud grin. “Too much, but let’s admit it. I’d be a perfect uncle.”

His comment actually made my whole face grow red before Wallas cleared his throat and literally pushed Colton away, who was on another laughing spree.

“Zasper and his fleet will be taking you there,” Wallas revealed.

“You’re not coming?” I asked because there had to be a deeper reason for his changed decision.

“Gaia may need assistance above. Baker isn’t holding back in using his resources to attack other packs and potentially kidnap outcast shifters who he deems lab worthy,” he revealed as his eyes darkened just slightly. “Your sister included.”

“You guys found her,” I stated in relief.

“We’re working on retrieving what we can and have a general location. She’s a part of another pack, which is good. We’re in good standing with them, so negotiating and reuniting the two of you will be easy. The only issue will be making sure we get to her before Baker does,” he stressed. “Whether that be him or his Astra form.”
