Lex took three solid steps to land right before me, and it was taking every ounce of control I possessed to remain in place as our new claimed marks pulsed at our closeness. Their oozing shadow energy was hovering around our necks like added jewelry, and I knew we’d have to solve our problems before any deals could be made.

For I wouldn’t be able to concentrate unless we dealt with this brewing shit here and now.

With the growing silence, the tension in the room only further spiked—all of us waiting to find out what this next mission was.

“Our next mission is simple,” she stated with a gleaming grin. “We find my twin sister.”

Unraveling The Truth Part One

“Twin sister?” The words left my mouth before I could stop them while my eyes further narrowed in scrutiny.

No matter the astonishing memories and new information that flowed openly into my mind thanks to our re-established bond, I never remembered Lexianne having a sister—let alone a twin.

It was intriguing how my previous “mate” was deemed a twin when that was all a façade, while my true mate was now revealing that she indeed was a twin.

Fate really enjoys being a trickster.

“How do you know you have a twin sister?” Felix decided to question.

“Wouldn’t that have come up in your background check?” Fynn added as the two Beta Commanders glanced over to Wallas as if wishing for his clarification.

“Nothing came up with my initial search,” Wallas admitted. “However, the extensive research in which I check the archives has been rather tricky to get a hold of.”

“I wonder why,” she sweetly hummed as she crossed her arms and proceeded to tap her lips with her index finger. “Master Gaia, would you like to go on a little adventure and acquire such difficult information?”

The familiar in question didn’t hesitate to bow her head in obedience.

“Say the word, Lady Heartwell, and I will commence an extensive search to discover any information revolving around your twin sister and the Monarch Hierarchy,” she declared. “And please simply call me Gaia. There’s no need for such formalities now that the truth has been revealed.”

“True,” Lex began and spun around to walk back to the side of the bed. With another spin, she sat back down and crossed her legs. I was sure she was trying to hide it from the rest, but I could sense her exhaustion which was probably begging to be relieved with a bit of rest.

“I enjoy calling you Master Gaia though. I believe you’ve earned such a title after all the years you’ve been training my Maleficient Astra form. That shouldn’t be thrown under the bus simply because Alpha Malifer’s loyal peers are in on our deepest secrets.”

“Whatever appeases you, Lady Heartwell,” Gaia responded while she was still in a bowed position. “Shall I make haste in starting the investigation?”

“Indeed,” Lex encouraged while her eyes gave off a glint of mischief. “Maybe you can go with Wallas? Certainly, our demonic penguin would be able to lead you to the proper areas where these potential archives could be hidden in forbidden places. You can think of it as a partnership.”

All eyes went from Gaia to Wallas. My Commander Chief wore a blank expression on his face before he made eye contact with Gaia specifically.

I’d almost missed the flicker of intrigue in those golden-brown eyes, but I caught it just in time, which only made me realize exactly what my cunning mate was trying to do.

She better not be playing matchmaker right now.

My demon simply chuckled which only confirmed that our mate was doing exactly that and would probably be successful. Clearly, everything she’d secretly planned had come true in her favor.

At least up to this point that is.

Wallas looked over to me, and I really couldn’t refuse because I needed to have a moment alone with Lex if we were going to apparently tackle this deal situation smoothly—or as smoothly as two polar opposite demons could attempt to pull off.

“It’ll be faster,” I began as I side-glanced at Wallas. “Be swift. Gather as much as you can until you sense our arrival at the deal site. I’m sure you’ve already gathered such information for us to reach the destination in a timely manner, yes?”

“Yes, Master,” he replied with a slight bow of his head. “All accommodations and coordinates have been confirmed. Due to the wards around the designated spot of interest, it's best you go by car. The Maserati and G-Wagon are both on standby with security throughout the city if you may need it.”

That was good news, but with the new predicament, it didn’t seem good enough.

Not with Lex in tow.
