It seemed easy to shed tears regarding the situation because it was such an overwhelming relief to know they were alive.

That so many who I thought perished were somewhere else in wait for someone who could free them from the endless world of shadows.

“I was destined to be their Alpha. To be their glimpse of hope in times of trial and provide reassurance as an Alpha does. To hear them chant in celebration at the sight of the proposal…no questions or accusations about why I’d abandoned them… Instead of hating me, they stood there proudly in support of my happiness and chanted as though to further empower us for the challenges ahead.” I could see the entire thing replay in my mind and it made me close my eyes as the vision of my father and the immense pride that washed over his aged face only made me feel more determined to return, to find out how I could empower myself to aid them in obtaining freedom.

Give them the freedom to return back to the land of the living.

“I know I can’t do everything, that it may potentially take time upon our arrival to figure everything out and catch up, but I’m willing to take that risk if it means being one step closer to giving them back the essence of life that was stolen from them wrongfully.”

Aiding them to rise from the ashes of death.

“But I don’t want to discount what’s happening here either, especially at a time that’s clearly vital to the future of the Syndicates. Our absence would probably make us look like we’re running away from the problem, but…” I decided to stop beating around the bush and hit the nail on the head, “I want to give off a different vibe when we reach East Syndicate. I want everyone to notice the difference in strength and confidence while also acknowledging this grand ring on my finger. I want to prove that I’m powerful enough to be by your side, even though I obviously can’t reach your level of expertise and extensive experience. I’m not sure. I just know that as of now, I project confidence and boldness only on occasions where I’m truly pissed off and feel the urge to prove myself, but I want to project it on the regular. To be like you, Zero, Asta, or Azu where you can be kind and at ease around those deserving of it and leave the rest quivering in your presence.”

I pouted my lips and leaned out of his arm to look at him apprehensively.

“Now that I’ve said it out loud, it feels kind of stupid and insecure,” I mumbled more to myself as I crossed my arms over my chest and tried to think of a better way to word it.

“It’s not stupid or insecure,” Asher immediately responded as he put his hands on my shoulders. His touch only encouraged me to give him my focus as his eyes told me he already knew what we were going to do.

“Before we make our decision, know that no matter what level of strength you reach, no one else’s outlook of you determines your worth at my side. This state of strength versus how impeccable you’ll be in five years’ time doesn’t give any shifter the right to judge you and assume you’re only my weakness,” he emphasized first before he continued. “However, I want you to feel confident by my side, and to believe in the strength you have.”

He moved his hand to my cup my cheeks — his thumbs grazing my flesh in a comforting gesture.

“If you wish for us to go to the Shadow Realms, we can do exactly that,” he revealed and looked deep in thought as he was formulating some sort of plan. “For us to stay there longer though, we’re going to need Nyx’s assistance. Like you said, coming back from the realm will drain us exponentially, but Nyx can make sure we’re still breathing.”

“How are we going to go there unnoticed?” I inquired. “She’s in the heart of Shifter City and with all the rumors and gossip revolving around us, I’m sure everyone is going to be on watch in hopes of seeing us.”

“Getting to Nyx won’t be much of a problem,” he confessed and for a moment seemed to be in a daze. I could hear the echoing of voices in my head, but couldn’t make out what was being said back and forth.

It took him a minute before he bobbed his head and returned his attention to me.

“I think we have a shot, but we’re going to need outside help,” he revealed and smirked. “I also need Juniper.”

“Huh? Juniper?” I inquired. The very pup in question was suddenly awake and happily panting at the mere sound of her name from our mate. I noticed Pyrrhus was now asleep as though to reserve his strength to aid us in heading to wherever we planned to venture to, and Eira’s mismatched eyes opened at my intrigue.

“The little pup needs to go on an adventure,”Eira commented with a hint of amusement in her voice.

“Woof!”Juniper was already impatient to find out what her mission was going to be.

“Is someone excited?”

I blinked and looked over my shoulder to see Alpha Axel chilling behind me. Unlike Asher, who was in a suit, Axel was in a black t-shirt that hugged his muscles perfectly and black cargo pants. He looked like he was ready for some undercover mission, and he really did look identical to Asher.

As if to pose in his place.

“Juniper always gets excited to see you,” I voiced the obvious before adding, “Now why do you look literally identical to Asher?”

“Does that mean if I was wearing his outfit, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference?” Alpha Axel offered back, which made me smirk in return.

“I’d be able to tell the difference,” I voiced and pointed to the tie wrapped around Asher’s neck. “I sadly almost tapped into the villain's side and left a gash in his neck.”

“See, I was telling him we were doomed,” Alpha Axel noted, which made Asher roll his eyes.

“You didn’t say shit,” he huffed.

“Nah. I did. You couldn’t hear because you’re mind, body, and soul was only focused on Selene and your dire desire to set things straight so you wouldn’t los—OOMPH!”

The poor man caved over before he was literally on the ground groaning like he’d been stabbed.
