One moment, I felt like an anxious mess waiting for something bad to happen, and the next, so much magic rushed through me that my body not only went numb but went limp with a roll of my eyes.

“Shit! Selene!”I heard Abyss curse. He had to have caught me before I slumped off the bike, but the looming cloud of impending doom only grew, which only encouraged the magic coursing through me, desperate for an outlet.

“Selene? Selene!”Asher was calling me in my mind but I’d been pushed into the passenger seat, but what was fucked up was the fact that Juniper, Phyx, and Eira were still with me.

“Um. What’s going on?”I spoke, which came out in my subconscious in the same way it did with the three of my entities.

"Your body is saving you,”Eira announced like she understood what was happening.“Hmm. I’ll be back.”

“Eira?! Where are you—”

I expected her to shift into wolf form but suddenly our viewpoint of what was happening around us shifted so I could see through her eyes.

Seconds before blades crashed and echoed with enough force to send after waves that ripped the surface of the road and dirt.

“E-EIRA?!”I exclaimed as the three of us had no choice but to peer at the new intruder who had a blade of vines pressed against the onyx blade of our own scythe — Eira’s scythe.

She’d not only pushed herself to be in human form, but she looked like a damn goddess as her attire glimmered with shadowed flames while her hair could replicate the appearance of spinning galaxies.

Her eyes were mismatched as blue and orange flames danced around her entire body, which was further assaulting our opponent, who clearly had every intention of killing Abyss, who was not only holding me but looked completely surprised by the sudden attack.

As if he hadn’t even sensed it.

I didn’t know why I did it, but I tried my best to take deep breaths, hoping the action would trigger my body to inhale deeper. The action matched with the mental intention invited various scents into my nostrils until I caught it.

Metallic bubble gum.

“If you believe you’ll spill the blood of my destined mate, you are but a blinded fool,”Eira growled as she pushed against the blade that was strong enough to pause Sapphire’s movement forward, though the tires continued to screech against the pavement, igniting sparks.

The newfound enemy pushed back to give a brief distance between us, but the being in red armor and a mask that resembled a Dusk pulled its sword apart until it morphed into two swords.

With a swift spin of the blades, it shot its next attack. Eira spun her scythe once and remained standing boldly before Abyss as the whiplash attack that was supposed to hit us passed and missed us by an inch on each side.

The attack was impossible to see, but the aftermath of the move left thick lines on both sides of the bike going down at least a mile into the earth — parting the ground to the point that one could see the flow of lava down beneath.

What in Mother Moon’s name?!

"Tsk. Troublesome,”Abyss muttered before he picked up my slumped body and maneuvered his way onto the bike. Sapphire had clearly stopped attempting to move forward, but if this Dusk creature delayed us much longer, we’d be caught, like Asher was trying to get us to avoid.

“What can we do?”

I was trying to brainstorm, but the appearance of this Dusk with the body of a shifter only with their skin entirely exposed and bleeding was making it impossible for me to think straight.

Let alone conjure up a plan.

Maybe that was why Eira was summoned and in control, but what state was I currently in to be in the driver’s seat of my subconscious?

"The cure must be eliminated.”

I caught onto the words of the enemy as it lifted its blades in preparation for another attack, but the screeching sound of tires matched with the jolting push forward made me grasp our movements as Sapphire began racing forward towards Alpha Asher.

The move was so fast no one saw it coming Sapphire came to a dramatic stop next to Ruby, which left the Dusk no choice but to turn around completely to see where we’d gone.

“Retreat, Abyss and Eira,” Asher encouraged. “Hurry.”

I felt Eira’s hesitation and Abyss’s concern specifically filter through the connection I shared with Asher, but neither of them vocally defied him. Their bodies vanished and then slammed back into us.

Her return didn’t seem to snap me out of whatever state I was in, which left me looking around my subconscious for answers.
