The news silenced me which left Nyx to carry on.

“He’s not open regarding his love interest because he believes it’s a weakness. However, he has a love interest. They’re either in East Syndicate or reside in Faerie at the moment due to the recent killings of Betas.”

“He’s a Beta?” I inquired to which Nyx bobbed her head.

“Just like Xenon is an Alpha. Though, his pack was slain with Asher’s family during the shifter war that happened prior to the whole culling of the Shadowborns across the lands. I doubt he holds that against Asher, nor will he use that against you. He has no reason to associate with Amaya.”

“Unless he’s being manipulated,” I voiced in seriousness. “Nyx. What can we do so that the new council members are protected from such tactics? I’m not worried about Zero and Asta, but if she could easily tap into Xenon’s mind, then she may try to manipulate the other new members.”

“Well, I doubt they can,” she admitted and looked at me. “You and Asher aren’t easy to manipulate with Eira and Abyss as your wolves.”

“Oh wait,” I whispered and cursed. “Fuck! We’re the new members? Has that been announced?”

“It was going to be but Asta felt the need to defer it for two weeks,” Nyx informed me which made me realize that would mean the moment we returned from the Shadow Realm, the announcement of our rise into the High Council will be confirmed.

“Who are the other two individuals?” I dared to ask and worried it would be someone who disliked us. If we wanted to be of service and actually aid all shifters, we needed a committed group that wanted the best for everyone.

“Alpha Azu and Beta Mercury.”

“SHUT UP!” I gasped and rose up before I covered my mouth. “Oh fuck. Sorry, Nyx.”

The following snicker didn’t come from her but from behind me, and my eyes widened as my jaw dropped.

“K-Kenzo?!” I didn’t even wait for him to say anything before I was crashing into him — the two of us falling over as he chuckled and hugged me back.

“I was trying to be that friend who surprises you at the right moment, but I couldn’t hold back. I had to laugh,” he admitted before he forced me to pull back to really look at me. “Wow, Shadowling. You’re outstandingly beautiful with these markings.”

“What are you doing here?” I choked on tears and was blinking my eyes so I wouldn’t ruin the paint and makeup that was done for the special occasion. “You can’t be here? I mean…how can you be here? Aren’t you going to get in trouble?!”

I looked at him up and down, noticing how his hair had gotten longer and was in a braid that was entwined with white and black ribbons.

He wore a suit that was literally color-blocked — one side was all black while the other was all white. I was surprised he had similar painted lines on his forehead, cheeks, and chin, and totally looked as though he knew the dress code for the private ceremony.

“Well, unless someone wants to pick up a fight with Alpha Azu, I don’t think I can get in trouble,” he laughed before it was his turn to fight tears. “Man, Bleu. I missed you, bestie.”

“Silly! I missed you more!” I voiced and hugged him tightly. “The days move slowly here, and everything has been eye-opening and peaceful, but I worried about you, Cinder, and the others.”

“Similar feeling in Faerie,” he confessed. “It’s been what? Five days, but it’s already February in Shifter Syndicate. I’ve enjoyed the break thus far, especially since I got to see my mother. Even got to introduce her to Tobias.”

“Omg! You did? And?!!”

“She likes him a lot. I don’t know if it was due to recent events or the atmosphere in Faerie, but Tobias has matured a lot in the last few days. Same with Cinder. I think they get an empowering effect as Mageri wolves,” he confessed before going back to the previous question I’d asked. “I was a bit down today since I’ve gotten rather used to being around you on the regular, so Alpha Azu invited me to a night out. He said it was Syndicate related which was why he needed me, so Tobias, Cinder, and Theo stayed behind. Before I knew it, I was at Nyx’s place and Azu said you’re getting married so I have to at least be there.”

“And you actually came?” I was speechless. “But the ritual to get here and the markings?”

“Nyx on the other side took care of it,” he revealed. “She prepared us and when I arrived on this side, a group of men and women were in wait to offer us these clothes for the ceremony.”

“Who told Azu about it?” I asked and we looked to Nyx.

“Your mate is well aware of how important your best friend is to you,” she acknowledged. “I believe he wished to ensure a few of those you care about were present for the marriage. Even though it’s a traditional ceremony so not many individuals can be present, but you two are given special privileges due to your significant connection to this part of the Shadow Realm.”

“Unbelievable,” I whispered and squealed before hugging Kenzo again. “Please tell me you’ll stay for a little bit after the ceremony?”

He laughed at my giddiness.

“I’ll stay as long as you need me to, Shadowling,” he vowed.

“I’ll inform the Elders that you’re almost ready so the officiant gown can be blessed.”
