“You look like you’re gonna fall asleep for a week.”

“Oh, no, no, no,” I declared and lifted my finger to point at him. “I will not fall asleep until I’ve ridden your cock so many times, my legs stop working!”

The way Asher started chuckling made me pout my lips because the sound came from behind me before a kiss pressed against my right cheek.

“You’re talking to a tree, baby.”

“Liar!” I gasped in horror and further opened my eyes to confirm I was indeed talking to a damn tree.

For fuck’s sake.

“I will not sleep!” I vowed and yawned. “I’m…not tired.”

“Mhmm,” he replied and didn’t hesitate to scoop me up. “You’re not?”

“I’m not!” I declared and looked down at him before I kissed him. “See! I can perform fine.”

“You kissed my eye.”

“What?” I blinked and tried to figure out how that happened and which eye was it, but he simply chuckled as he lowered me back to the ground just so he could hug me.

“This dress is really pretty,” he commented while I rested my head on his shoulder.

“I really like it,” I confessed. “So pretty and detailed. It was made by the shadows of this realm itself like all the clothes. The decorations were pretty too.”

“Did you enjoy the ceremony?”

I lifted my head just for a moment so I could peer up at him and nod.

“It was beautiful. Having everyone there, everyone we care about, both the living and those we’ve lost, felt like a true dream,” I confessed and rested my head on his shoulder once more. “Now my Alpha is my husband.”

“You’re gonna make sure everyone under the sun knows that, hmm?”

“Yes,” I mumbled. “Everyone’s going to know that Alpha Asher is my HUS-BAND! I’d spell it out. H…U…hmmm. What comes after U again?” I yawned again. “Whatever. I like the chanting music.”

“You can still hear it from here,” Asher acknowledged and I giggled.

“They’re going to realize we ran away, you know?”

“Oh, I know.” He sounded far too amused.

“We talked to everyone. We reintroduced ourselves to many we knew when we were but kids. We played with all the children and ate the various foods, which was a bit intriguing when we’re technically in the spiritual form here, and we got to actually spend time talking to Diana, Brax, Prax, Father, and Guardian together.”

“Before my parents came by and decided to be dramatic.” Asher chuckled, and the memory made me giggle with him.

“I didn’t know they were actually good friends with mine,” I voiced and further rested against him. His arms wrapped around me, the two of us swaying from side to side as we kept talking.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen my father smile or heard my mother laugh like they did today,” Asher confessed. “I know it’ll take time for us to help them rise back to the surface, but the interaction and just living in the moment of celebration rekindled many memories I’d forgotten.”

“Really?” I loved listening to him open up to me. It could have been because we were married now and he felt extremely comfortable sharing knowing I’d never use it against him.

“The chanting and clothing. I’d forgotten about our cultures and how seriously we took them. I don’t know if the trauma of losing them just let me zone the world out and only remember pack life. To be honest, I didn’t really give myself the chance to mourn, even when the few people who did care about me encouraged it,” he admitted. “I was angry. My parents didn’t deserve to perish as they had, and I just wished to forget about our morals and values because those sentimental virtues didn’t save them from death.”

He inhaled and let it out, holding me even tighter as we continued to sway.

“This week, being here and exploring the Shadow Realm, made me realize that our purpose is to make an impact on the world. It could be as little as smiling at another, or as big as saving many shifters’ lives. The traditions and virtues my parents taught me were to ensure I became an Alpha not blinded by the addictive desire for power and control. Their teachings helped me grow and be someone so many look up to, even when the Syndicate is on the verge of collapse. Their deaths hurt me, but their impact is what helped me become the man I am today,” he acknowledged. “Now I get to return and prove to them that they raised me right. Even if they didn’t get to enjoy the full extent of watching me grow into teen and adulthood.”

“They looked really proud of you,” I whispered.
