“Oh.” That made sense. “I won’t hurt you right?” My eyes couldn’t help but linger on all the scars, some of them looking so new like he’d been abused for hours on end.

“Stop worrying about me, Bleu,” he huffed and whispered under his breath. “I’m trying not to accept you.”

I decided not to comment on that as the urge to see how bad the damages were and if everyone was alright was greater. Climbing onto his back quickly, I secured my arms around his neck before my legs wrapped around his waist.

He took a deep breath before incantations of black and teal quickly formed all across his arms and legs before he was running so fast, everything literally became a blur in seconds. It was like I was riding the human version of Sapphire, which forced me to hold on as tight as I could wild I ended up closing my eyes so I wouldn’t get nausea.

“SELENE!”

We came to a jolting and I opened my eyes and looked to my right to see Azu, Asher, and Tobias. One look told me something was wrong, and a simple glance to the floor proved that we had a casualty.

And an unexpected one.

“Amaya?” I gasped in horror to see her twisted body that was filled with slices like she’d been cut with so much glass that I was even surprised her body was still “attached”.

I was going to get off Xenon, but he whispered, “Wait. Where’s the knight?”

“Mercury?” I questioned and looked to Azu. “Azu?! Where’s Mercury?”

He frowned. “She said she was with you and Xenon before our communication fell through.”

“That’s impossible!” I stressed. “It was just me and Xenon when the Dusk fish crashed into the tunnel. You were there!”

“No I wasn’t,” he spoke up.

“What do you mean you weren’t there?” Xenon called out. “You were with me minutes prior and said you wanted me to train Bleu seeing as I’m one of her council mentors!”

“I’ve been with Asher and Tobias this entire time,” Azu stressed.

“Wait!” I silence them as I quickly recapped our conversation and realized a grave detail I’d missed. “Azu? What form are you currently in?”

“Seelie,” he declared.

“Meaning you haven’t been in human form at all today.”

“No,” he emphasized and my stomach flipped with anxiety as Xenon peered over his shoulder to look at me.

“What?”

“Azu laughed early,” I whispered. “Nothing happened. No calamity or anything. Azu can’t chuckle unless he’s in human form.”

“Then…” Xenon’s eyes were wide with shock —and fear —“Who the fuck was that?”

“Selene?” Asher questioned and I looked to him with fearful eyes.

“THERE’S AN INTRUDE—”

“Ah!” We flinched at Azu’s cry, watching the man drop to his knees as he clutched his chest and fought for breath.

“Oh shit, Azu?” I cursed and didn’t even need to tell Azu to move to the others because we were already there. I quickly got off him and was next to Azu with Asher as he literally fought for breath while his eyes watered.

“Azu? Hey! What’s wrong?” Asher was fighting to aid his friend but it was like Azu was witnessing and experiencing another’s pain.

Then it clicked.

“Mercury,” I barely got her name out before I was running and Asher was calling after me.

“Selene!”
