“Shit! Xenon! Follow her please!” Tobias stressed.

“On it!” Xenon replied but I was already running down the corner and running straight to where we were training. My heart beat wildly against my chest, and I ran as fast as I could, but it felt like it wasn’t enough.

What the fuck is going on? Why can’t I push myself to the lengths I know I’m capable of?

Before I could figure it out, I was literally scooped off my feet, but I didn’t stop moving as Xenon now carried me with ease.

“Xeno!”

“There’s something in the air prohibiting you from using your full strength like everyone else,” he revealed to my surprise as he turned another corner and headed down the hall I knew would lead to the double doors of the training room I’d been in with Mercury. “I’m immune to it but no one else is. It's why Azu isn’t causing a fucking tsunami when it's clear he’s in pain.”

“It’s a move to disable us from fighting back,” I whispered.

“Exactly,” he declared just as we entered the room and walked into what I could only call a war zone.

My heart stopped, my eyes wide and my tingles of fear collided through me because I landed on my best friend’s body first.

“K-Kenzo!” I screamed and dropped out of Xeno’s grasp before I was at my Fae’s side. I didn’t know where to look first, but he had the same slice cuts as Amaya’s body did, only his body was still attempting to heal itself.

I didn’t even think, my trembling hands immediately working on finding any major wounds before I grit my teeth and summoned as much magic as I could tap into. It felt ten times harder than normal, but with what Xeno just said, it made fucking sense that I was struggling.

The imposter didn’t want us to have access to our shifter or magic abilities.

With concentration, I healed two of the biggest wounds that were still bleeding out profusely before I was pumping his chest with both hands, again and again, hoping to restart his heart.

“C’mon, Kenzo,” I whispered. “C’mon. You’re my Beta. My best friend. You can’t go dying on me! Breathe! Breathe!Breathe, Kenzo!” I ended up ordering as I compressed his chest as hard as I could.

He gasped suddenly and proceeded to cough — relief immediately rushing through me as I turned him to the side.

“Kenzo!”

He wheezed and could barely open his eyes, but he immediately recognized me before muttering, “M…Mer…”

“Mercury,” I whispered and glanced over to see Xenon was doing exactly what I’d been doing, his hands crossed and pressing against Mercury’s chest.

“Kenzo. Just focus on breathing and healing, kay? T-Tobias is going to be here soon, too!”

“B-But…C…C…”

“It’s okay. Just focus on breathing,” I encouraged and managed to summon my fur coat which I immediately laid upon his trembling body. It wouldn’t do much but probably keep him warm and hopefully maintain his energy shadow energy levels at least.

Rushing to Xeno’s side, I moved to Mercury’s head before leaning down to give her breath while Xeno continued timed compressions.

Again and again, we kept doing the sequence, begging her to breathe but the longer it took, the more hopeless we began, until even Xenon slowly stopped as he looked at me while tears spilled down my cheeks.

“She can’t die…” I whimpered. “I…I have to do something. Can’t…Can’t I do something?”

He looked at me for a long moment before he shuffled to me.

“Switch places.”

I didn’t ask questions. I just did what was asked of me which landed me on Mercury's side. It gave me a chance to see the extent of her wounds — the gaping hole further down in her stomach being the clear culprit of her blood loss.

“You can only do this once,” he instructed. “I’m taking a risky move here and Asher is probably going to kill me, but if you want her to live, you need to give this all your focus.”

“Okay,” I agreed.

“Focus on tapping into your Celestial energy and pull as much magic as you can with the intention of not only healing Mercury but retrieving her soul. It’s going to take you multitasking since you’re unable to call your wolf to help, so you need to be in tune with our body and allow it to fall into that deep state where you’re unable to control anything.”
