He smiled and proceeded to run to me, until he hugged my legs which left me no choice but to look down while my eyes felt so heavy, even in this place.
“No one will harm you,”he vowed like it was his newfound mission to protect me as he reached out with his little hand and patted my stomach.“Sleep, Mommy.”
His words made me relax, as my eyes began to close, and all I could hear was his softened words as my mind drifted away.
“I’ll protect you.”

Rise Of The Shadowborns: Part One

“I will burn you until your very soul feels the fucking heat!”
I never imagined I’d have Axel, Abyss, and Zero holding me back from ultimately destroying a High Council Member, but here we were —my last fucking nerve snapped and burned to dust.
“At least if you’re going to kill me, you can do it on the battlefield or something so it’s a noble fucking death,” Xenon grumbled, which only made me want to rip him to shreds so I could torment his fucking soul in the Shadow Realm until Selene was strong enough to revive his fucking ass so I could kill him again.
“You’re not making your predicament any better,” Axel groaned. “Fuck. Asher! Can you cool the fuck off, please?”
“I forgot what a ruthless fucker you are when you’re mad,” Abyss spoke more to himself.
“Asher, let’s hear him out. He’s the only one conscious right now and we don’t have time to be fighting one another,” Zero emphasized in hopes that I’d listen to fucking reason. But I really didn’t give a shit his reason because as of now, he was a potential suspect in helping Zed infiltrate East Syndicate and the reason why Cinder and Amaya were dead among many other injured shifters.
Not to mention my mate having to save Kenzo and Mercury from the hands of death.
“Let me punch him one more time,” I suggested, and Abyss sighed.
“You’ll make sure it kills him.”
“You of all people should be on my side!” I growled and fuck, I was seeing fucking red.
Xenon sighed as he continued to sit on the floor with his head resting in his hands. His face was as bruised and swollen as the rest of his body after I pummeled my fist into him so many times, I lost count.
“I swear if you’re like this, you better pray your kid ain’t fucking bullied or I bet you’ll just get rid of their whole family.”
“My kid ain’t fucking bullied? What does a kid have to…” I trailed off and completely stilled as I stared at the man, who sighed again.
“Fuck. She asked me not to tell him and I let it slip. Hmm…I’ll just say he punched it out of me…though she probably wanted to tell him herself. She only just found out…hmm.” He further pouted his lips and sighed again. “This is what happens when I have to play double agent. Shit.”
Now Abyss and Axel were staring at the man in question, which gave Zero the opportunity to step between us.
“Can we take a moment just to talk?”
Well, he had the moment because I was still processing what that Xeno fucker just hinted at.
“Repeat what you just said,” I ordered as Zero moved out of the way so I was looking at Xeno again.
“This is what happens when—”
“Before that.”
He stared at me long and hard, and I was literally seconds from giving up and punching him all over again, but heels clicked against the tiled floor, alerting us that Asta was back.
We looked to see her and, surprisingly, Azu, who literally looked like fucking shit. I’d known him for plenty of years, but the sight of him so distraught was probably the worst I’d ever witnessed.
“You might as well tell him, Xenon,” Asta announced. “As much as you’d wish to keep your word, he would find out before she woke up.”
