Finally encourage the Rise of the Howling Shadowborns.

“That smile. That fucking smile! See how you fucking mock me?!” Zed screamed. “I’ll slice your head off just like I did the first time!”

He was in front of Father in a blink, and I gasped as the man lifted his sword to slice through Father, but it simply went through him like he was just a ghost.

“What?”

“You really have lost you way, Zed,” Father whispered as his image returned, but he was behind Zed. All he had to do was put a small neon blue paper on Zed’s back. “It’s made you lose sight of the plentiful teachings you passed onto me and my boys. It’s a shame. You could have been a good uncle.”

I squinted my eyes to realize it was sticky not he’d placed upon the man’s back, and upon it was a drawing of a magic circle.

They’re binding him… Wait. This is my chance!

"SHUT UP! YOU WON’T DENY ME MY FUTURE! I’LL BEHEAD YOU ALL OVER AGAIN!” Zed screamed with fury, but suddenly realized he couldn’t move. “What?”

“Now, Selene,” Asher pressed.

I closed my eyes and centered my breathing, Zed’s cries fading away like the rest of the world until the humming energy rushed through me — taking over until I opened my eyes. I was thrumming with power.

Instead of seeing the battle that was before us, all I could see was Zed as he stood there surrounded by dead bodies.

So many bodies, as we were in a field full of them. Innocent Shadowborns, young and old, but compared to the bodies that were cloaked in black, only one individual was in color.

A woman with striking orange hair.

She laid lifeless at his feet, blood all over her body, but it was the cord that was connected to her body that I followed upward — until my eyes landed on the cradled being in Zed’s arms.

A stillborn…

"Sadness can push the greatest men into madness.”

I looked down and there was the little boy — our son.

“You…”

He looked up at me, his little hand in mine.

“We have a lot to do, Mommy,” he urged. “A lot of souls to save.”

“You’re right,” I admitted. “Can he be saved?”

The little boy looked back at Zed and shook his head.

“No, Mommy. He cannot.”

I understood, even though my heart sank at the reality that such sadness had truly driven Zed to his end.

“I don’t want you to lose out on your childhood, though,” I quietly admitted and looked down to see how big his smile was as he squeezed my hand with all his might.

“I won’t, Mommy. You and Daddy won’t let me miss out on all the fun,” he assured me. “I’ll grow up and become a man who will help them all. You’ll be there for me. Just like Daddy.”

He moved to hug my feet, before he pressed his hand on my tummy.

“We will be there for you, and I’ll protect you all.”

“We?” I stared at the boy for the answer, and he giggled like he held a bigger secret.

“Shh,” he whispered. “It’s a surprise.”
