Only in the flesh.

My words got stuck in my throat as he began to approach. My eyes took him in as I realized that he truly was alive. The only significant thing was the black mark along his neck, but it seemed to be exactly that.

A marking and not some sort of wound.

When he reached us, he knelt down while he smiled so proudly with eyes that twinkled with so much life.

“We won?” I dared to ask, and I watched as he slowly nodded.

“The only way of killing Zed was to reverse what saved his life. My death saved his life, which was why he killed me, to begin with.”

“Which means your revival…”

“Ended his timeline on here,” Father revealed.

“He was living off of borrowed time,” I whispered, and suddenly I understood all the bodies. “He had to keep killing to remain alive.”

“Sadly, yes,” Father confessed. “That was the cycle he was stuck in. Killing to remain alive while he tried to figure out a way to bring back his wife and unborn child by trying to make them into Dusks. It took me years to finally figure it out, and all I needed to do was find a way back to life so I could end his misery.”

“Wow,” I whispered. “It’s finally over.”

“It is.” He was trying to not get emotional himself as he reached out and gently placed his hand on my stomach. “So now, we can start to build a world where we not only can have peace, but can prepare for the future where we’ll be able to rise together.”

“A Howling Heir…and a Celestial Heir,” I muttered more to myself as I thought about it, but I watched it click in Father’s eyes before his whole expression showed his shock.

“Twins?”

I couldn’t smile any bigger than I was at seeing the true happiness flooding his face as I slowly nodded.

“I guess you have to deal with two mini shadows?”

Father laughed, the hearty sound heartwarming, before he was hugging us both. “Thank you. Thank you for giving us shifters salvation.”

Deep in my heart, I knew this had to be a new beginning.

A new chapter that would change our world and the various worlds that coexisted with us.

I’m ready to ignite that change, and with it, a world where one no needs to feel like an outcast to exist.

Will the journey be easy?

No.

Yet, that’s how life is.

Nothing is easy, but with failure comes growth, and that only makes success taste far sweeter when accomplished.

The Rise of the Howling Shadowborns has begun, and our future?

Only time will tell where our next adventure will begin.

THE END.
