Damn right.

Then Natalie turned to face him, and all his good intentions vaporized.

She was still cleaning up what was left of their meal, tossing out their trash and wiping off the cheap little table. Given the craptastic condition of the rest of this establishment, she needn’t have bothered. Still, he was glad for a roof over his head and a clean bed to sleep in.

Natalie grinned, and he felt that smile all the way to his groin. “You look better now too,” she said.

“Yeah, thanks.” He approached her as if drawn by an invisible cord. Somewhere in the back of his mind, warning bells clanged, telling him to stand down, to think with his brain and not his cock—as he loved to tell the guys on his team. He’d never realized how hard that command was to obey until now.

The digital clock on the nightstand flashed 11:55. After however long they’d been out of commission in the car, then the hike here, two showers, and dinner, more time had passed than he’d realized. If they hoped to get a decent night’s sleep, they needed to hit the sack soon. “I’m going to bed.”

“Not so fast, big guy,” Natalie said from beside him. “Got your first aid kit? I need to patch up that gash on your shoulder before you bleed all over the sheets.”

“Oh. Right.” He’d hoped the shower would take care of it, but he glanced over to find the sleeve of his T-shirt already showing a growing crimson stain.Well, damn. The last thing he needed right now was Natalie’s hands on his skin, but he didn’t have much choice. The wound wasn’t in an area he could reach himself without further irritating the injury, and she was right. It would bleed everywhere unless he got it bandaged. He set his duffel down on the bed and handed her the kit. “Um…”

Natalie pulled out supplies—gauze, bandages, alcohol pads. “You’ll need to lose the shirt.”

Those words conjured all sorts of naughty thoughts before he tamped them down. This was ridiculous. She was treating his cut, not seducing him. He should think of this like a trip to the med unit back on base. Why, then, could he not seem to stop picturing Natalie in a skimpy nurse’s uniform, straddling his lap as she rode him hard, her top open, his mouth greedily sucking her hard nipples while she twisted her fingers in his hair?

Jesus H. Christ.

Flustered, he tugged the shirt off over his head and tossed it aside.

“Take a seat, sailor.” Natalie pointed to a spot on the bed, and he did as she asked, keeping his gaze on the floor and thanking God above that the boxer briefs were roomy enough to hide his semi-erect cock. Otherwise, this whole situation would be beyond embarrassing.

She leaned closer to squint at his cut, her small, pink tongue peeking out between her soft, full lips, the citrus-floral scent of her shampoo wafting around him.Goddamn, it should be illegal in all fifty states for a woman to smell that good.

“Okay.” She straightened and ripped open one of the alcohol pads. “This might sting, but I need to make sure it’s clean. Hold still.”

Hold still? He’d been shot, stabbed, beaten to within an inch of his life. A little cut on his arm was a piece of ca— “Ow!”

Kyle flinched away from the searing pain, and Natalie grabbed his arm to keep him in place.

“Seriously? Stop being a baby and let me get this done, all right? We’re both exhausted and need some sleep.”

“I’m not a baby. What the hell is on that thing? Gasoline?” He scowled at where she was again dabbing the alcohol pad of pain on his cut. “What’s next? Matches and a butane torch?”

“Funny.” She gave him a deadpan stare. “Cauterizing the area isn’t a bad idea, though. Would definitely stop the bleeding and prevent the possibility of infection. In fact, I think I have a lighter in my bag…”

She started to walk away, and he grabbed her wrist. “Don’t even think about it.”

“Kidding.” She laughed, the sound low and rough and rubbing him just right in all the wrong places. She shook off his grip and reached for a stack of gauze pads. “Let me put some of these on to cover the cut, then I’ll tape it up and you’ll be all set.”

Her breasts rubbed against his arm as she worked, and he hazarded another glance at her. Color suffused her cheeks, and her breath had deepened. She met his gaze for a brief second, and he noticed that her pupils were blown wide. Heat seemed to pulse between them in waves.

His cock twitched in anticipation.

“Almost done,” she said, her words soft and husky. Her fingers gently stroked his skin as she twined the bandage and tape around his arm.

“Natalie?” Kyle croaked out past his tight vocal cords.

“Yes?”

“Have you been lonely since Nick died?”

She stopped working, and her hands fell limp to her lap, her dark brows furrowed. “Why?”

Tentatively, Kyle stroked the backs of his fingers down her flushed cheek. “BecauseI’vebeen lonely for a long time.”
