“We met through work.”

“Oh, the employee.” Kat grins and twists to Lauren. “My lips are sealed.” She motions across her mouth.

“Erm, thanks,” Lauren garbles.

“So, what are your plans for the rest of the day?” I ask her as the main door clunks shut.

“Lovers, get dressed!” Perry calls, and I groan as Lauren looks at me helplessly.

“Kat, you're on coffee duty,” I state, walking to block Lauren into the island. “I’d like to say it’s not always like this, but it is,” I admit, grinning.

“It’s nice,”—her fingers play with the seam on my tee—“but I’m going to order an Uber and get out of your way.” Her neck is craned to accommodate me crowding her.

“No,” I say simply. I lean over and press a kiss to her mouth as my friend strolls in with several paper bags. “Anyway, he has breakfast,” I murmur against her mouth.

“I feel a little awkward,” she whispers. I grip the back of her neck and press a deep and suggestive kiss to her mouth. Her hands tangle with my top as effortlessly as my tongue attacks her mouth.

“And now?” I hum.

“Worse.” She chokes, pressing her face into my neck. “This was supposed to be a naughty little weekend heist,” she whispers, flustered.

“It is. They won’t say anything, and no, it won’t be weird if you and Perry remain friends,” I tell her as her eyes dance about the kitchen nervously.

“And us—this feels weird.” Unease holds her face in a strained smile.

“We can talk about that later. Just relax.” I peck her lips and step away as Perry starts getting things out.

“Hey, Kat. Looking tear-stained as ever, what gives?”

“Hey, Perry. Less of a dick today? No, oh, what a surprise,” Kat spits back and stirs the coffee loudly to drown out Perry when he blows a stream of kisses down her ear.

“They always like that?” Lauren laughs.

“Always.” I sigh.

“You are, without a doubt, the most irritating man,” Kat fumes.

“I think Lauren would disagree with you there. She can barely tolerate your brother,” Perry quips and winks at Lauren.

“Well.” She laughs, pulling her top over her bare thighs. “Office Cain is definitely more irritating than penthouse Cain.” Her cheeks warm, but I move to put my lips against her ear.

“I was only irritated because it’s painful having to look at something you can’t have.”

“Couldn’t,” she muses lightly as Kat places our coffees down.

“So, what’s on the agenda?” Perry joins us at the island with two plates of pastries in his hands. “The cinnamon swirl thing is mine.”

“Meaning?” I query, ignoring my friend. Is she suggesting she wants more than the weekend? I can’t allow myself the luxury of getting involved with her or anyone else.

“Nothing. You said can’t, but you have, so—” She blushes, her voice filtering off into a barely there whisper. I spoke the truth when I said the weekend wouldn’t be enough for me. Seeing her around work will only torment me further, and I loosely debate what it could be like if I did allow this to blur the lines. If, for a short amount of time, we did let this progress into something more casual. The thought of fucking her over my desk sends me dizzy with tangible excitement.

“For a moment, I thought you were offering to be more accessible to me at work,” I speak quietly, low enough for only her to hear, testing the waters.

She licks her lips, and I know, like me, she wants more than a weekend. Her eyes slip to see if we are being listened to. “Cain,” she murmurs, unconvinced.

I lean right in, and my hand slides up her legs and under the seam of the shorts, where I find her pussy bare and wet. “You could use your lunch break to venture up to my suite. I would be more”—I slide my fingers along her lips, and she grabs her coffee, quickly taking a small sip, her breathing uneven and laboured—“than happy to find you there.” I peel my hand away and lift my own mug with my clean hand, and the other one picks up a pastry. She watches me wide-eyed as I take and bite, then lick my fingers clean. Winking, I push the plate to her.

“You okay?” Kat asks Lauren.
