Calla turned her frame over. Under the glass was a photo of me, one I’d never seen before. At the bottom, the same note was written.

“Rile’s doing?” I asked.

She laughed. “Definitely. The man has never been known for subtlety.”

“Maybe we should send him a selfie.”

“In bed? Both of us naked?”

“You said he wasn’t known for subtlety.” I took the frame from her hands. “I have a better idea. Get under the covers with me. Wait. Where’s your phone?”

“You aren’t really suggesting we send him a photo?”

“Trust me.”

Calla climbed off the bed and picked up her cell from where it sat on the dresser.

“This way, if you decide you don’t want to send it, you don’t have to.”

She raised a brow but handed it to me, then crawled into bed. I snuggled her close, pulled the blanket up to both our chins, and cupped her cheek, turning her face to mine. With my other hand, I held up the phone and took a close-up shot of us kissing.

“How’d it turn out?” I asked, showing her the screen before I looked at it.

“It’s perfect.” She took the phone from my hand and turned it so I could see it.

It was a simple kiss, yet it conveyed love. Pure, simple, and true. “That’s my favorite photo of us.”

Calla kissed my cheek. “That’s the only photo of us.”

“Even after we have hundreds, that one will still be my favorite.”

“Merry Christmas, my love,”I said sometime after midnight. “Your turn to make the rules.”

“Mmm, Merry Christmas,” she said, pulling the blanket out of her way.

What she did next ensured I’d let her make the rules whenever she wanted to, every day, for the rest of our lives.

“While the ideaof going to an amusement park today sounds fun, I think I’d be happier just staying here. And by here, I mean right here—in bed,” Calla said when we woke early the next morning after making love most of the night.

“You’re the boss, sweetheart, at least until midnight. I do have one request, though.”

Her back had been to mine, but she rolled over. “A Christmas wish?”

“Something like that. Although, I’m pretty sure you’ve made every wish I’ve ever had come true already.”

Her cheeks turned pink. “You’ve made mine come true too, Spider. Even the wishes I didn’t realize I had.”

“It means leaving the bed. And the house.”

“I suppose I could live with that as long as we aren’t driving three hours north, then back again.”

This is much closer. I’d like to check on the boat today. Maybe sometime this afternoon.”

“Do you think anyone will be at the marina today?” Calla asked.

“I know they will. For years, Alfred has hosted a Christmas dinner for everyone in Jupiter who’d otherwise spend it alone.”

“How sweet. I love that. Do you think he could use some help?”
