What the hell?

I shiver and blow out a warm breath into my cupped hands. White puffs of steam billow from my mouth. The air is heavy and damp and it clings to me like a weighted blanket draped around my shoulders. I’m sopping wet and now I’m frozen through, so all in all, this place sucks ass.

“Where’s your thermostat?” I call down the hallway, leaning to one side. “You mind if I crank it up a bit? It’s like a fucking block of ice in here.”

Brinley walks back into the living room wearing a pair of black leggings and an oversized mint green sweatshirt that falls past her thighs. The color makes her eyes pop. My interest in this girl just kicked up a few notches. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. But I just can’t help myself when I’m around her.

I should be pissed as hell at her, and I am, for the most part.

But her eyes.Holy shit. This girl’s eyes are incredible, and they do things to me that I can’t explain.

Tossing me a couple of dry towels, she flips her head upside down and runs a towel through her own hair, before pulling it back into a small knot at the base of her neck.

“Thanks,” I tell her, wiping my face.

“Ray turned off the heat last week.”

“He what?”

“Yeah, I have no heat.”

“Is that even legal?”

She shrugs, running the towel behind her neck.

A shiver passes through me, making my muscles clench. “How are you not freezing a slow death in this place?” My eyes do a sweep of her legs when she bends over to pick up a cushion from the floor, tossing it back into place at the end of the couch, and fuck me if the gentle curve of her backside hidden beneath her leggings isn’t the sexiest thing I’ve seen in a really long time.

Unbuttoning my shirt, I strip it and my vest off over my shoulders. Shaking out the wet fabric, I ask, “Is there someplace I can hang this while it… what? Why are you looking at me like that?”

She swallows, deliberately busying herself with wiping her bare feet. “Like what? I’m not looking at you in any way.”

“Yeah, you were,” I say with a smug grin. I know what I saw. Her pupils practically dilated right before my very eyes. Yeah, might be time to take this little endeavor of mine up a notch. “You were looking at me with crazy eyes. No harm in admitting you like what you see, Tink. You can touch me if you want.”

Her mouth falls open. “What is your problem?”

“What’syourproblem?”

“My problem is, you shouldn’t be here in the first place, and yet here you are parading around half-naked in my apartment.”

“I’m not half-naked. I’m wearing jeans.”

“Uh, yes… hence why I saidhalf-naked.” She chews her lower lip and looks at me skeptically. “Please tell me you don’t plan on taking your jeans off too?”

“Not unless you want me to.” I give her one of my most flirtatious smiles. “Though, you could at least buy a guy dinner before you proposition him like that.”

“I wasn’t… oh, very funny. Be serious will you?”

“I am being serious. Guys like to be wooed just as much as chicks. You should keep that in mind.”

“I’ll take your word for it,” she replies sharply, rolling her eyes as she takes my vest and my shirt and walks into the kitchen to wring them out at the small sink. Once she’s done, she hangs them over the back of a chair. “How many tattoos do you have anyway?”

“Too many to count.”

“I can see that.”

“You checking me out, Tink?”

“No,” she says, quickly. “Tattoos aren’t really my thing. They don’t do anything for me. They’re not attractive at all. I don’t like them.”
