We’re amped, ready, and unwilling to settle for anything less than the win.

The game tomorrow is ours.

Nothing but gold on my mind as I head for the locker room.

Music pumps through the speakers as the boys on the team finish showering before heading out. Over half have already left by the time Finn’s ready.

Eli and I have been done for a while. Growing up with a dad whose ex-military, he’s had time management down since before the diapers came off. Me, I just have my girl waiting on me back at her house.

Waiting on Finn is nothing new. The boy has a routine and likes to exfoliate.Ourdiligence does nothing to help speed up his process.

Rory always jokes that he has more of a bathroom routine than she does, and she’s not wrong. In a few minutes, she could be ready and looking flawless, but that’s not saying much because she’s always stunning.

Finn on the other hand, aside from the rumpled clothes, isn’t afraid to spend hours making sure his hair is perfectly styled. The added time usually works in his favor though. He’s never had a problem stealing girls’ hearts.

It’s trying to keep them that’s the problem.

For them, not him.

Eli curses quietly under his breath, and my head follows his line of sight, spotting Finn only in a towel.

“I thought he was at least changed by now,” Eli mumbles beside me.

Unbashful, Finn passes us as he rips off his towel. Bare ass hanging out as he shoves a leg through his boxers. “What’s got your dick in a pretzel?” he asks, somehow catching on to Eli’s soured mood.

Eli’s upper lip curls. “A pretzel?”

“Yeah, it’s more interesting to say than a knot.”

When neither of us reacts, he shakes it off, shoving the other leg through. The elastic on his shorts snap against his waist as he straightens back to his full height.

Finn’s arm bends, finding his hip bone when neither of us agrees or disagrees. “What? You can’t tell me I’m wrong.”

Eli shakes his head in disapproval and Finn’s eyes widen in his bewilderment. His head shifts to me in the hopes that I agree.

“Oh, calm down,” I protest. “The joke was shit, but it wasn’t as bad as your closest neighbor.”

Finn’s mouth falls, not getting it. “Our closest neighbor is Silas.”

I bite back my wince; notice how he didn’t say, my father? Because we now share the same one.

“Yeah, that guys an asshole,” I say, and I hear Eli snort out a sound. The edge of my mouth curves the tiniest amount. At least someone understands.

“Ha, ha, very funny,” Finn notes. Tone dead, finally understanding after about thirty seconds.

Leaning back, Eli’s head hits the lockers behind him with a sigh. The noise muffled by his hand, spotting the ever-present confusion marring Finn’s face. The noise was too heavy, and rigid.

“Seriously though.” I ask angling my chin back at Eli. “What’s up with you?”

“Mom and Dad are both coming to the game tomorrow.”

“And?” Finn asks, drawing out the one word.

Eli exhales. “And Mom texted a few minutes ago to let me know my sister is coming too.”

“Your little sister, ’bout yay high?” Finn asks, putting his hand to about the middle of his stomach.

“The one and only,” Eli agrees. “Only she’s not so little anymore. She’ll be starting high school next year.”
