She laughs. “I never knew that.”

“I’m a font of useless information.”

“Technically, it’s fount.”

“Oh really?”

“From fountain. But it’s interchangeable nowadays. See? I know plenty of useless information, too.”

I lean on the bar and sip the gin as I study her. Her cheeks are a little flushed. Her wild hair gleams in the flashing lights.

“You’re absolutely stunning,” I say.

She licks her lips. “You’re not so bad yourself.”

God, I want this girl. I want to push her up against the bar and kiss her senseless. I want to feel her soft body against mine, and pull her close against me so she can feel how turned on I am.

I look at my gin glass. I should probably have something to eat.

“Mack!”

I turn and see my closest friends approaching. Not surprisingly, they’re all staring at Sidnie. It’s been a while since I brought a date here.

“Hello.” I put my arm around Sidnie again, resting my hand in the spot at the base of her spine that I’m quickly beginning to feel belongs to me, and introduce her to my friends. “Sidnie, this is Oliver Huxley.”

Huxley is the same height as me, and a big guy too, with dark hair. He’s affable, charming, and charismatic, and it’s not a cover—he’s genuinely one of the good guys.

She shakes hands with him. “Pleased to meet you. I love your club.”

“Thanks,” he says. “I’m glad you managed to drag Dr. All-work-and-no-play here tonight.”

“It wasn’t easy. I had to physically pull his laptop out of his hands.”

He laughs, and I grin. “This is Elizabeth Tremblay,” I continue, gesturing to the woman in the middle. She’s as small as Victoria is tall, and even though she tends to wear three-inch heels, she still doesn’t reach any of our shoulders. She has dark-brown hair she wears in a chic long bob, and big dark eyes. “She owns MediTechNZ.”

They shake hands. “I love your hair,” Elizabeth says to Sidnie, leaning close to make herself heard. “It’s gorgeous.”

“Thank you,” Sidnie replies. “It’s out of control, though. It’s so warm in here, I’m sure the humidity is making it worse.”

Elizabeth laughs and glances at me—she likes her.

“And lastly, this is Titus Oates, Chairman of NZAI. He’s not half as impressive as his name suggests.”

“Unfortunately that’s true,” Titus says, shaking her hand, and she chuckles, because it’s obviously a lie. He’s like a Viking, even taller than me and Hux, with dark-blond hair, and he’s extremely good looking.

“It’s a nickname,” Victoria advises. “His real name is Lawrence.”

“Lawrence Oates—like the guy who went with Scott to the Antarctic,” Sidnie states. “Of course, his nickname was Titus.”

“Yeah,” Victoria says, “well done.”

“We also call him the Incredible Hunk,” Elizabeth teases, and Sidnie giggles.

“Mack?”

I glance around and feel a jolt at the sight of a woman with short, striking red hair standing next to a good-looking younger guy.

“Hi.” I see her look at Sidnie and reluctantly introduce them. “Sidnie, this is Felicity Scarlett-Rose and David Clarke. Felicity, this is Sidnie.”
