Life is too short to miss precious opportunities like these. Ivy is everything I’ve ever wanted in a woman. Intelligent, sensitive, and desirable, my life would be bliss if I could come home to her every night. And I will do everything I can to make her mine.

We arrive at her apartment, and I pull up to the curb. “Are you ready to check out your new home?”

“Uh-huh.”

I escort her inside and help her settle in to make sure she is safe. Once she is comfortable, we sit on the couch. There are a few things weighing on my mind.

“I love you, and so does everyone in my family. Thanks for coming with me.”

“I loved it. They were all so nice, but that isn’t what you want to talk about, is it?”

“You’re right.” My first instinct is always to protect her, but the feeling is even more significant when it comes to her. But what if what I am protecting her from, is me?

“Am I enough for you?”

“What do you mean? You are amazing.” She cups my cheek, sincerity shining in her gaze.

“I want to be everything and give you everything,” I reply. “But I’m afraid I am not enough.”

“You are not. And why on earth would you think you might not be enough for me?”

I draw a slow breath. I don’t want to scare her, but she has already seen my dark side. I want to be a better man for her, but there is no denying the truth. “I’m a killer, Ivy.”

“Maybe you were,” she adds hastily. “But it isn’t what you are. It’s not the person you are in here.”

She places a hand over my heart and my heart just about breaks. She sees me, and all the trauma from the past I am holding onto.

“Easton, I love you for everything you do, but you don’t need to be anything you’re not. You do not need to keep on saving me. If you haven’t noticed, I’m doing a good job.”

“What about your family? What will your well-heeled parents say about me?”

“Frankly, I’m insulted that you think their opinion matters.” Her haughty response makes me laugh. “They don’t have to live with you, but I do, and I approve.”

“You’re gorgeous, you know, and I can’t wait to get you alone and taste you,” I murmur. Ivy blushes a pretty shade of beet red.

I kiss her, slow and deep, my tongue dancing with hers. She presses closer, and I feel her heartbeat echo in my ribs, and every inch of me is buzzing with desire.

There are things I need to sort out, and so does she, but with her by my side, I am ready to face anything life throws at us.

How could I ever know that my family’s second Christmas, would bring me the greatest gift of all?

She is the love of my life and I will spend every day of the rest of my life showing her what she means to me.

EPILOGUE

Ivy – one year later

Easton was pleasantly surprised when he met with the team at Thunder mountain. He explained his predicament, but it seems the contract he signed came from the wrong office, and was outdated. Thanks to a clerical error, he got out of that job, and kept the advance.

He also negotiated a new and better job for himself with the same company.

My job is awesome, and this Christmas, my parents are visiting us. We are due to meet them at Easton’s brother’s place for lunch, but he has woken up with an impossibly hard problem and seems determined to deal with it right away.

He tips my head back while he explores my mouth. “You taste so good.”

“No time,” I gasp. “We’ll be late.”
