“I’m sure you would be.”

“So how has riding been?” She shifted in her seat as she spoke quietly.

Of course she would shift the conversation back to me.

“It’s been pretty good.”

“You’ve been getting inside your head the last few though haven’t you?”

Her words were so gentle I almost forgot she wasn’t with me during my rides.

“Yeah. Just some shit I have to work out I guess.”

Then she said something that I wasn’t expecting and almost missed our turn off for the hotel because of it.

“I should give you my number. In case you ever just needed an open ear. Unless that’s stupid. You probably have a ton of people you can talk to about your shit.”

“No, I mean yeah I have people but not anyone who would just sit and listen. Everyone has their opinions about what I’m doing wrong and how to improve. No one seems to get it’s in my head. Which yes I realize makes me sound crazy, I swear I’m not.”

She smiled, and her hand brushed some hair behind her ear.“I get it. I do the same thing.”

Another brief silence fell over the truck as we parked at the hotel.

“Give me your phone.”I held out my hand. Cautiously she handed me her phone. Typing my number in I hit the call button. My phone danced happily in my pocket. I already had her number, but I wasn’t about to admit that.

“There now you have my number and I have yours. You can always call or text too. Anytime, day or night. Can’t promise I won’t be dead to the world if it’s late though. Ranch life does that to you.”

She laughed taking her phone back. Letting her fingers linger just a few extra seconds as she looked up at me slowly.

“Thanks. I’ll keep that in mind.”

Walking her into the hotel I wished I could take the elevator ride up to her room. I wanted more time. Sitting in the lobby by myself I stared down at her name. I had no excuse to not call or text her after this weekend. She knew I had her number now.

Thirty minutes later Cole and Nicole showed up. Cole was the first to open his mouth. “Wow. Looking for brownie points are we? Showing up before me, smooth moves Gregory.”

“For your information, someone left Hannah at the farm with no ride. Didn’t want her to pay for a ride from a stranger.”

Nicole walked up behind Cole just in time to need a recap.

“She’s upstairs getting ready. No, I don't know when she’ll be down. And don’t think for a damn minute I don’t see what the two of you are doing.”

Before they could say anything, the elevator doors opened. If there could have been butterflies or doves flying out around her, there would have been. I made the most audible embarrassing noise of my life as my blood rushed down my body. Somewhere between a mix of a word and a grunt.

Cole laughed, immediately drawing even more attention to me. Nicole on the other hand looked at me with an all knowing look. Leaning into me she whispered.“Boy, would be a shame to let such a pretty girl get away twice wouldn't it? Especially when she looks like sex in that dress. Bet it looks even better on a floor.”

It didn’t need to be said. I was an idiot, and I didn’t plan to be anymore. I also didn’t need to be told how ravishing she looked right now. Her dress down to those heels was perfection. I hadn’t seen her in anything but sneakers. She was so cute in her jeans and sneakers but this. This look made me weak in the knees. I was almost afraid to move and fall.

Who the hell was this girl that she was literally making me weak in the knees? This wasn’t like me. I was desirable, charismatic, and a damn amazing person once you got to know me. I wasn’t some guy fumbling over my own thoughts because of a girl in a dress.

“Hannah, you look absolutely stunning. That picture didn’t do this dress justice.”Nicole walked up to her and hugged her tightly. Whispering something in her ear that caused her to shake her head and blush as her eyes met mine. As the two of them made their way toward us Cole held out his arm for Nicole to take.

Not holding back he looked at me and then Hannah.

“Escort the damn girl you idiot. May as well start now so you two don’t look so damn awkward tomorrow at the wedding.”

I almost held my arm out, but as my brain processed what he said it made no sense. From what I knew the best man escorted the maid of honor. I wasn’t the best man, I would have remembered being told that.

“I’m not the best man though.”
