“Fuck!” My voice came out twice as loud as I had meant it to. What the hell was I going to do? I couldn’t spend the day with her now. Not after she was just subjected to my family who, despite them saying they said nothing I was sure they did something.

“Relax Bryce. Go get showered. Drive to the chapel or wherever and go about your day. She will not do anything to ruin her best friend's day. You picked a damn good time to pull your head out of your ass. She’s a sweet girl by the way. Smart too. You should have seen the stack of papers she prepared for this morning.”

“Get out of my house. Fuck my head hurts.”

Rolling over I knew I needed to get up. I needed to get my ass to Coles hotel room to get ready. Yet the only thing I wanted to do was go get a horse and ride the longest trail I could find.

At least the disgusting concoction my brother gave me took away most of the hangover. Getting ready with all the guys I tried to push my anxiety of the day down.

“You okay, man?” Cole walked over to where I stood looking out the window.

“Yeah. I’m good. How you holding up? Ready to hand your man card in today?”

“More than damn ready. You ready to stand up there and watch me do it?”

“If it was anyone other than Nicole probably not. She’s awesome though man. You got lucky with her.”

By the time they had us lining up at the church my stomach was in one tight knot. I had been scanning the area since we arrived in hopes to see her. Tell her I wanted to talk to her. Apparently I had sent her a friend request while I was drunk and texted her. Two things I was terrified would scare her off.

As she walked into the small vestibule the distance between the front of the church and back seemed immense. I almost hated that Cole and Nic had decided the men wouldn’t escort the girls up to the front only back out. It meant a few less minutes of her being near me.

My brother's words kept playing ping-pong in my mind. I called her my sunshine. While I could see why I said it, it still surprised me I had told them anything. Damn whiskey got me every time.

Watching her walk down the aisle she smiled holding her flowers perfectly in the middle of her body. Her dress differed slightly from the other girls. Hanging on one shoulder it didn’t show any cleavage. Yet I still couldn’t help looking in that direction. They pinned her hair back from her face, the same curls she had the day at the rodeo resting on her shoulders.

Her eyes drifted to mine, and she smiled. I wish it looked different from the one she was giving everyone else but it wasn’t. It was still a gorgeous smile, and I tried to not get in my head about it.I wish I could say I paid attention to the ceremony. That I could say it was beautiful, and that I heard a single word that anyone said. My entire focus was on Hannah.

Escorting her back down the aisle I waited until we were in the vestibule at the back of the church before I turned to her.

“You look absolutely stunning Hannah.”

Her cheeks turned a bright pink under her made-up face.“Thank you. Glad you figured out the tie.”She looked down at my neck and smiled.

“Not going to lie, I had some help.”

Before we could say anything else we were being bustled around to say hello to the guests. More and more space was put between us and by the time we went to the park a few blocks away for photos I was itching to ask her to sneak away and talk to me.

“Bryce, Hannah, you two go over here.”The photographer bossed everyone around and my chance to have even five seconds with her were fading. Each moment felt like hours passing.

The reception was much the same. Every eligible bachelorette that Nicole had invited cornered me. I almost retreated to the bathroom just for a break. Finally, I noticed Hannah sitting by herself checking her phone. There was no chance I would make it across the room.

Bryce: having a good time?

She looked up glancing around the room before looking back down at her phone.

Hannah: yes

Bryce: heard you got the job this morning. Congrats.

Hannah: thanks

Bryce: would love to have a dance with you if you’ll have me

Hannah: not much of a dancer

Bryce: neither am I

Hannah: then why ask me?
