“What time is it?”

“Just past seven. I didn’t want to wake you.”

Shooting up on her elbows, her eyes widened and I could see the panic settling in.

“I never sleep this late anymore. Shit. I told Hunter I would be back by lunch today. I’ll never make it. Shit. I need to go.”

I tried not to chuckle at her dedication but it was cute. I had already texted everyone and told them I was kidnapping my girl for the day and they could deal without her.

Hunter: I don’t like this.

Evan: me either, Sunshine does better work when he’s not around

Bryce: stop calling her that

Evan: not a damn chance.

Devin: Hunter get your ass out in the orchard and make sure the irrigation system isn’t screwing up again. Evan the goats aren’t going to feed themselves. Bryce you get one day then you send Sunshine back here. We didn’t hire her to be screwing you

Bryce: STOP CALLING HER SUNSHINE!

Hunter: Oh shut up Bryce. Be happy that we like her enough to steal your name for her. Send her back in one piece.

Evan: we break shit, not women Hunter

Devin: he’s got a point.

Bryce: bye

“I handled it already. You're mine today. Already cleared my schedule and yours.”

“But… I have work to do. I told Claire that I was only taking the one day and Evan said…”

“I know and I handled it. Remember, they’re my siblings. I told them I’d return you tomorrow.” The look of panic on her face made me pause. “Hope that’s okay.”

She fell back onto the pillows, her hands covering her face as she laughed. It was such a sweet sound filling the room. Although, I did not know why she was laughing.

“You know what they think now right?”Her hands muffled her words. Climbing onto the bed next to her I pulled her hands from her face. I knew what my brothers thought, but I wasn’t about to admit it to her. I also had no intention of telling her how lucky she was that we had broken nothing yet while having sex. Had our shower sex after the wedding been in a different location I was positive there would have been casualties.

“They think I’m skipping work for sex. How am I supposed to go back there now?”

Breaking her train of though with my own, my words blurted out fast. “Do they call you sunshine while I’m not there?”

Her lips straightened as she looked over at me. The seriousness that my question brought her was frightening.

“Yeah, though I still don’t know why. They started it the day of my meeting when they offered the job.”

My body leaned back on the pillows as I pulled her into me.

“Remember how I told you about that game, whiskey truth?”

She nodded, “the game you told me about but never really told me about, yeah.”

“Whiskey truth is a game my brothers came up with. I think. I actually have no idea where it came from. One person is usually the target. Luckily I had never been of any interest to them. Except that night before the wedding when my brothers showed up. They were excited I was back home from the tour. The thing with whiskey truth is you don’t realize you’re the target until you have had too much to drink and can’t stop yourself usually.”

She sat listening to me describe this ridiculous game with intensity.

“So it’s like a truth or dare game?”
