Just then I heard a voice from behind me. A smug as hell voice, “he doesn’t deserve it Hannah but he’s practically begging.”

Without needing to turn around I could tell I had an audience behind us. That must be why she was telling me to stop. Well, it was out there now. They had been taking turns calling me the stupidest names all week. They could add simp or pussy to it for all I cared.

“Evan has a point, he screwed up pretty bad.”

Whipping my head around I scolded Hunter, “will you shut the fuck up? I can screw shit up enough on my own, I don’t need your help.”

Devin chuckled and Lilly promptly smacked him.

Taking a step closer, I lowered my voice so that no one could hear me except Hannah.

“Can we go back to my place or somewhere without the peanut gallery?”

Another tear glided down her face. “Why Bryce, wasn’t I only with you to be in the spotlight?”

My words thrown back at me hurt worse than being trampled by that damn bull. Her eyes closed as she took in a few deep breaths. Once she reopened them, she nodded.

“I’ll meet you at your house in an hour.”

An hour was a long time for her to reconsider and tell me to fuck off but I didn’t have a choice.

“Ok. I’ll leave the door unlocked for you.”

Do you know how long an hour is?

It’s 60 minutes.

3,600 seconds.

It may as well be a lifetime.

The deep rut in my living room floor was proof that an hour is indeed a very, very, very, long time.

A knock on the front door nearly knocked me on my ass. Was it her? I told her it would be unlocked. Should I have said come right in? Was she no longer comfortable enough to just come into my place? It was her place. Our place.

The tremor in my hand was evidence of how nervous I was. When the door swung open I was prepared for what I would see.

Her hair was pulled up into a messy bun. A few wisps of hair framed her face. At Claire’s her face was done up with makeup, now her natural beauty was on full display. She had changed into a dress that met the floor but her shoulders were bare. There was no way she had a bra on with that dress. Not that I had any right to see her like that.

“Hi.” Her voice was soft as velvet.

“H-hi.” I stammered. “Come in. Do you want something to drink?”

“No, I’m alright.”

Awkward silence blanketed us. Having already spilled every word I wanted to say I didn’t know what to do.

“So, you’re going back?”

It took me a second to realize what she was saying.

“I think so, yeah. Unless you ask me to stay. I’ll do anything, Hannah. Anything you want.”

There was a silence that made my skin crawl. It was that tense moment right before you find out if your world was going to implode or if there would be a victory lap. I watched her face trying to figure out what she was thinking. Her lips parted and that’s when her beautiful voice finally let me in on what she was brewing in her mind.

“Kiss me.”
