“You could have just said you enjoy shower sex.”

We talked for two hours before we fell asleep. It was the best sleep I had in weeks. When I woke up with her wrapped under my body, clinging to me like she was afraid I wouldn’t be here when she woke I couldn’t stop myself from smiling. It was only five in the morning and waking her was the last thing I wanted to do but I did have work to do. Kicking myself for promising Hunter I would come to help him put drywall up in his house before I needed to get to the store for a shift I slid my body out from under hers.

“Where are you going?” She didn’t even have the energy to open her eyes as she slurred the words.

“I have work. You stay, sleep. I’ll be back around lunch.”

Rubbing her eyes she sat up, yawning. “Want me to go make some coffee?”

“No. I want you to relax.”

“Can’t I have to go home anyway to feed the dog and let her out.”

Climbing back beside her I kissed the top of her head.

“You have a dog? You didn’t mention that last night.”

Her shoulders rose and fell quickly, “it didn’t come up. I think you’ll like her.”

“What’s her name?”

I had always wanted a dog but my grandparents always said it was too much work. Once I was working on the farm every day I had to agree. Taking care of a dog and giving it the attention and exercise it would need would be too much.

“Marshmallow and before you ask I didn’t come up with the name. Luke suggested it when he saw her for the first time. Said she looked like a roasted marshmallow because of her coloring. I’m surprised you haven’t seen her around the farm. She usually comes with me to work but wanders off throughout the day.”

“I love that name. I bet she’s adorable. Well, I have to go to Hunters and then to the store. Maybe you could bring her by for me to meet her.”

She nodded and smiled. “I can certainly do that. She loves the store. Bri saves leftover meat for her.”

My phone buzzed on the bedside table.

Hunter: get your ass out of bed. You're late. No excuses

Bryce: I’m on my way asshole.

“I love you, Hannah.”

Her face flushed. “I love you too Bryce.”

Epilogue

Six months Later

Bryce

The announcer was obnoxiously loud as he made his comments.

“Bryce has been on a really lucky streak lately.”

The co-announcer cut in. “Rumor has it that it has a little to do with his lucky charm being here. Hannah has been by his side since his unfortunate accident six months ago. She is at every one of his rides.”

“Right, the beautiful Hannah. I got to speak to her after a few of these events. Sweet girl. Gregory better put a ring on it before another cowboy scoops her up.”

Fucking idiots. Like another cowboy had any shot. She was my sunshine. Mine. I knew it was just filler talk but it still aggravated me.

“Let’s just hope that the knee injury from his last ride doesn’t hold him up.”
