Two Years Later

Hannah

“How in the world do you do it, Lilly? I swear between you and Claire, you made this parenting thing look so damn easy and it’s a lie.”

Somehow life with two under two hadn’t gotten any easier in the last two months.

“You’ll get the hang of it. Plus we’re a village here. No man left behind. You snagged yourself the official babysitter so I’d say you’re ahead of the game.”

She was right about that. Bryce was the best dad I could have ever imagined. Dirty diapers didn’t scare him. A scrape on the knee and he was rushing to kiss it and make it better. They both had him wrapped tightly around his finger.

“Hey, Hannah?” Nicole walked toward me with a concerned look on her face.

“I don’t like that face Nic. Please tell me Cole isn’t…”

Nicole shook her head, knowing I wasn’t going to like her answer. “He’s right where you don’t want him. I tried to steer everyone to the barn but lord knows the Gregorys don’t listen to me.”

Bryce had bought an old bull-riding machine from a bar that was closing down. He swore the kids wouldn’t see it but he gravely misjudged his ability to hide a new toy. His brothers found it, then the kids quickly followed.

“I love that man something fierce but if he doesn’t put me in an early grave.” I shifted the baby in my arms to get up and find my husband.

Lilly chuckled and took a sip of her sweet tea. “Welcome to the dark side of parenthood Hannah. Where you begin to question your sanity. Glad to have you join us.”

Bryce walked up behind me, his arms wrapping around my waist.

“Where are you joining her?” He asked completely unaware of what we were talking about.

I couldn’t help but chuckle as he planted a kiss on the top of my head.

“Nowhere. Should we expect you and Cole to battle it out later on that thing out there?”

My chin lifted toward where the mechanical bull was hidden. His grip tightened around me as he swayed slightly.

“I will only ride if you’re there you know that.”

Craning my neck back he placed a chaste kiss on my lips. “Of course, what’s a rider without his lucky charm?”

The End
