“I’m first up. Roscoe, you in?” Priest asks.

“You bet,” Roscoe responds.

“Come to the bakery. I’ll pack dinner for you all,” Hanna says, then moves toward the exit.

“Hold up, Hanna. No one goes out alone. War, you’re with Hanna until Risk gets back. Just got his call. He’s on his way,” Guard states.

War turns to his wife. “Let’s go, kitten. We’ll pick up the kids and hang with Hanna until Risk gets back.”

Maddie quickly makes her way over to me and drops a kiss on my cheek. “Tell Charlotte I’ll be by tomorrow for a visit,” she says, then waves goodbye to the rest and takes her husband’s hand as they walk out with Hanna.

“Right. I got Vi and Ava. Vi and the kids will stay with us until Orion gets back,” Guard says.

“Izzy’s staying here. Camille can head out with you,” Saint says.

“She’s gonna want to stay,” Steady says.

“Then go get your kid from your mother’s and head back to get her. Once she sees her kid, she’ll leave,” Saint jokes, but he’s not wrong.

“Abby and Willow are with me,” Ghost says.

“I should stay.” Sofia turns to her husband, Demon. “Someone could have called the police. You’re going to need me if they do.” Forever our dedicated lawyer, Sofia is always thinking ahead.

“We’ll call if they come by. In the meantime, you all need to get some rest. We need to regroup. Meeting tomorrow at the club. Be ready when I send word,” Guard says. “I want everyone there.” Guard gives me a nod. “Wildcard, I know you don’t want to leave your woman, but this includes you.”

“I can brace her leg. She can ride in the back. It’s not a long trip. We can set her up on the sofa,” Saint says.

“I’ll be there to keep her company,” Vi adds.

A round of “me too” and “we’ll be there” from the Lady Pride convinces me it’ll be good for Charlotte to be with friends.

“We’ll be ready.” I acquiesce, not entirely happy about the situation, but Guard’s right. There’s a war brewing, and we need to prepare.

I’m Going to be Okay

WILDCARD

It’s been a long fucking evening. Charlotte finally came to, and she was beside herself with worry about Priest and me, until she saw for herself that we were fine. That’s when her sisterly fretting came into play. Noah went quickly to her side when he heard her call his name, taking the drama out of the moment.

Getting Charli home and settled in our bed felt good. She seemed serene. The tension eased out of her as I arranged her in our bed. I left Noah sitting beside her while I went to unpack the food Hanna sent over. There’s enough here to feed an army. She thought of everything, from soup to steak sandwiches. And of course, no meal would be complete without one of her heavenly goodness desserts. Hanna put together an assorted tray of bars, cookies, and cupcakes. It’s no wonder that Risk hits the gym every day.

The worst of the day isn’t even over. I still have to go back in there and tell them that their father’s dead. It’s not going to get any better when Charli’s going to have to go and identify the body, especially now that she’s been through today’s drama.

The question beckons, if it wasn’t Paul, who the hell would take a shot at Charli? I keep running the scene over and over in my mind. The most logical explanation is that they were aiming for me or Priest and Charli got in the way. It’s not the first time, nor will it be the last, that a Satan’s Pride enemy would come out of the woodwork to retaliate.

I’m hoping that Risk and Orion have more information when we meet up tomorrow, because none of this seems to fit. The Pride have been careful to separate ourselves from the typical MC nightmares that happen. We stay out of the way unless we’re threatened. Guard’s worked hard to create peace between the Pride and the surrounding clubs.

I grab a tray, fill it with food and drinks, and walk it back into the bedroom. Noah scoots off the bed and grabs a couple of chairs from the kitchen so we can eat together.

“Oh my God, this is the best thing I’ve ever tasted,” Noah moans after he sinks his teeth into the sandwich. I chuckle as I watch him take another bite.

“How about you, dollface? You gonna be able to eat some of that soup, or should I get you something else? Hanna’s sent over enough to feed us for three days,” I tease.

Her hands are a little shaky, but she manages to take a couple of spoonfuls of the homemade roasted red pepper soup. “This is really good. I’ll have to call Hanna to thank her later.”

“You’ll make me happy if you finish all that,” I tell her.
