I couldn’t move.

I couldn’t even blink.

Hell, I couldn’t even tear up. The burning of the tears was there, but even they were too stunned to fill my eyes.

“Y-you didn’t.” He couldn’t have.

“Santa did.”

I shook my head slightly.

“Lucas...” My voice came out a mere whisper.

I swallowed the lump the size of Curaçao in my throat.

“I know you didn’t bring your good camera with, and I know that it’s older and I was looking online and everyone was saying how this was top-of-the-line and I thought you needed it, a top-of-the-line camera for a top-of-the-line you.”

“You blew our fifty-dollar budget.”

“So did you.”

“A set of Bluetooth speakers are a little different than...” I motioned to the box and glanced under the tree. There were still more gifts under there.

“I can’t control Santa. No one can, not even Mrs. Claus.”

“Sure.”

“Ask Mrs. Claus, she’ll tell you.” He grinned at me and got comfy on the floor. “When I accepted the house for Christmas, I started thinking, started making plans. I asked him if I could have some of the presents shipped here early so it would be a surprise. He was more than happy to. The tree, the stockings, the ornaments, they’re all here because I came up with it. I wanted to give you a Christmas to remember.”

A camera bag. Lenses. Filters.

My fingers were shaking by the time I was done.

He was already sitting there, the box of chocolates open in front of him, a mug of coffee and a bottle of beer off to the side.

I got up and wrapped my arms around him. I didn’t have the words for this.

He rubbed my back, kissing my cheek. “You deserve it, Abs. You can take some amazing pictures...and video on that thing. I watched some reviews, it’s really good. We’ll get it set up later, if you want. We can go for a drive?”

I put my finger over his lips. “No.”

His brows furrowed.

“We’re staying here today, remember? Just us, the sand, and the ocean.”

“Right. Then first thing tomorrow…”

“Fine, first thing tomorrow.”

I filmed Lucas opening his presents on my cell phone, still too amazed to play with my new toy: the speakers, the T-shirts I’d picked up in the market, the hand-painted hat. He grabbed a kissing ball he’d picked up from somewhere and hung it over my head, leaning over to kiss me.

I giggled, wrapping my arms around him and kissed him softly. His lips tasted of the coffee and chocolate he’d been having for breakfast. He fell back with me on top of him. I grinned and turned my camera off, pushing my phone off to the side.

His hands skimmed up under my shirt, stroking my lower back gently, his fingers making loops on my suddenly sensitized skin, his eyes turning mischievous. “Are you one of my presents?”

“I don’t know…never really thought about it.”

“Mmm, I’d kind of like to unwrap you under the tree.”
