I almost spit my coffee out as the photo of Lucas in all his nakedness filled my screen.

I swore I heard Lucas’ footsteps near the stairs. Which meant he’d be there any second…finding me gawking at him on my screen.

I frantically clicked the camera off, setting it on the countertop and covering my mouth before the coffee escaped and ended up all over the counter, the camera, and myself.

Shit, shit,shit.

How had that happened?

My heart rate accelerated, and I pushed the half-full coffee cup across the counter, about to reach for the camera and hit delete on everything, reformat the entire SD card, when Lucas decided to make that the moment he walked into the kitchen.

He came down, still sliding his T-shirt over his head as he walked into the kitchen. I caught myself taking a longer look at him than I normally would. I couldn’t help myself.

“So you’ve been spending time at the gym lately.”

He shook his head, but I caught his eyes twinkling in amusement. “Leave it alone.”

He ran a hand over his hair to smooth it from the mussed look the shirt had created.

“Right.” I laughed anxiously. “Well, we’ll work on those tan lines while we’re here.”

“Abs…”

“Yours were pretty good.”

“What?” His eyes narrowed in confusion.

“Your abs. Sit ups? Planks? Whatcha doing?” I teased, glancing at the camera on the counter. I hoped he wouldn’t want to look at the photos. I’d have to risk accidentally dropping it to the ground in that case. I swiped the camera off the table, thankful it was my smaller point and shoot—it would fit conveniently in my pocket.

He playfully flipped me off before reaching for his coffee on the counter. “I know you meant my tan lines…”

I giggled and leaned back against the counter, waiting for the toast to pop. “What are we doing today?”

“I might have plans.”

“Such as?”

“You’ll see.”

“Cryptic.”

He shrugged innocently and leaned back in the chair. He looked at me for a moment with an amused smile. “Stay here.”

“Where would I run off to? You’ve got the car keys.”

He grinned. “Just stay here. I’ll be right back.”

“Okay, just me and the coffee and the toast, which means I have first dibs...”

I watched him hurry up the stairs, right as the toast popped up. I took the toast out of the toaster, setting it on the plate then going back through the cupboards for the small container of marmalade we’d picked up. I found it tucked in with the spices and set it out on the countertop.

I’d just found a knife to use to spread it on the toast when I heard his footsteps nearing the steps.

He walked into the room with a smile and a box with a bow on it in his hand.

I bit into the toast and leaned on the counter as he put the box down in front of me, moving my coffee away then taking the toast right out of my hand.

“What’s this?”
