Lucas shook his head. “Was thinking more tomorrow for that one.”

“It’s a bit more busier, but get there early enough and you’ll be fine getting chairs. There’s a ton of loungers up and down the beach plus restaurants and a lot more…you can spend an entire day there easily. You might enjoy checking out Kenepa Beach today, it’s not far. They have chairs for rent, snack bar, there’s great snorkeling along the cliffs if you want to get into the water.” He smiled at us. “I can give you the directions?”

Lucas looked at me, and I nodded. “Great, thanks.”

I smiled as the young woman helping him put our wrapped sandwiches down.

The man wrote the directions down while he chatted away with Lucas then he tipped them both and we headed back outside. Lucas opened the passenger door and I slid in, getting situated and putting the sandwiches in the cooler bag he had found at the villa.

He walked around the Jeep and jumped into the driver’s seat. “Why are we going to Mambo beach tomorrow?” I asked. It sounded like the perfect beach.

He glanced at me as he started the ignition. “Just thought we’d stick to the less crowded stuff today. Ease ourselves into the crowds sort of thing.”

I shrugged a shoulder, opening the bag of potato chips that had gotten added to our order. I popped one in my mouth before holding one out to him. “Whatever you say, Captain.”

He laughed and off we went, me playing navigator and reading the directions our new friend had given us.

An hour later, we were settled into our rented lounge chairs along the beach. Lucas had put the cooler bag between our two chairs. I smiled at him as I laid back and closed my eyes. The beach wasn’t all that crowded. A small group was hanging around the snack bar, but most people were either in the water or spread out amongst the chairs on the sand.

I heard Lucas open a drink and glanced over at him. He held it out to me. “Thirsty?”

“I’m good.”

He nodded and took a long gulp before putting the cap back on it and setting it in the sand. He stretched out on his lounger. “You going in the water?”

I laughed. “In a little bit.”

“The water looks amazing.”

“Everything looks amazing.” I looked out at the view. The cliffs across from us. The beautiful blue water, the even bluer clear sky above.

I kept having a pinch me it couldn’t be real moment.

“Did you take any pictures yet?”

“Not yet.”

“Well, whenever the mood strikes…” He waved his hand to the view.

I pulled my phone out of my tote bag and scanned through the messages. A couple texts from Marnie checking in. I took a picture of the view and hit send, then brought up a magazine in one of the apps to go through.

Lucas yawned and glanced at me. “I may go in the water…see if I can wake up.”

“Go ahead.”

“You sure you don’t want to join me?” he asked, sitting up and slipping his shirt off.

I caught myself watching the movement a little more than I normally had.

“I…” I trailed off as he leaned forward, stuffing his shirt into my tote bag.

He held his hand out. “Come on, we’ve managed to be here almost twenty-four hours without going in that gorgeous ocean.”

“You do have a point.”

I tucked my phone away and slipped my own shirt over my head. I stood up and slipped out of my denim shorts, tucking them inside the tote bag.
