“Sure you are.” I laughed softly, taking a deep breath.

He worked his hands along my back, up to my shoulders, and then back down, as if making sure he hadn’t missed a spot. I’d guarantee he hadn’t—I had felt his touch across every inch of my skin. It was like he’d brought every single nerve alive.

I kept telling myself it was because I wasn’t used to the warm weather; my body was far more used to the winter climate back home that I was just more…susceptible. It was a mix of the heat and the air and really nothing more.

I kept my eyes closed and bit my bottom lip hard to keep from making any noise as his hands moved back up one last time. He rubbed my shoulders one last time.

“How's that?”

I prayed my voice would come out normal.

“Great.” I nodded.

He scooted back, and a moment later, the lounger moved slightly as he stood.

I opened my eyes and found him going to take a seat on his own lounge chair beside me. “You want me to do yours?”

“I’m good right now. But maybe later?”

“Later.”

I moved to lay on my stomach for a while, letting the warmth of the sun lull me into a relaxed state. I glanced over once to see him, stretched out on his back, his phone in front of him.

“Even on holidays, you can’t be away from your phone.”

“I’m just checking on something, that’s all.”

I shook my head and turned to face the other way, letting my eyes close, and I slowly drifted off to sleep.

Lucas’ phone beeped, and I rolled over sleepily to look at him.

“What’s up?” I asked groggily as he sat up, swinging his muscular legs off the side of his lounger, kicking up a small bit of sand into my flip flops.

The corner of his mouth lifted into a smile. “Time to go…”

“But I’m comfy.”

I was. Super comfy, super doozy, and super ready to spend the rest of the day right there just as I was.

“We can come back to the beach in a while.” He tucked his phone into his shorts pocket. “C’mon, Princess…”

I groaned as he helped me up, and I slipped my tank top back over my bikini top. I stepped into my denim shorts then rolled my towel up and set it in my tote bag, and Lucas stuffed his in there, too.

He took out his baseball cap and stuck it on, tapping the brim of mine. “Let’s go get something to eat…”

“Okay.” I stretched, and he took the tote bag from me, then we headed up towards the restaurants.

The more awake I became, the more food didn’t sound like the worst idea in the world.

By the time we got there, I was looking forward to something icy cold to drink. I definitely was not used to the heat. I glanced towards the sub shop and was tempted to go there, but Lucas tugged me over towards the Grill restaurant. We stepped into the shade and in moments took a seat at a round table in the corner, overlooking the walkway and beach. I pulled my hair back into a ponytail as a waitress approached our table with a smile and set our menus down.

“What can I get you two?”

I looked at Lucas.

“Two beers?” I said. “Whatever’s handy. And a large lemonade…”

“Two lemonades,” Lucas said with a smile.
