“Just the heat. And the food and it’s getting crowded in here, kinda loud…”

“Then we’ll go.” He grinned, picking up the brochures. “Come on, let’s go home.”

He pushed back out of his chair and helped me stand up.

I ignored the newfound awareness as his hand touched mine. “Let’s go.”

The meeting with Dominique seemed to go well. We’d tentatively scheduled out the next five days, at least a few hours a day to give us a good view of Curaçao. I was totally looking forward to getting the chance to see the island and go snorkeling. The photos in the various brochures had looked amazing, and I knew Abbie would be in her element. Camera in hand, ready to capture whatever caught her attention.

She seemed quiet on the way back to the house after. I thought maybe we’d had too much sun for the day. I’d looked up a few nearby places online, figuring we’d go out at least for drinks and maybe an early dinner before coming back for the night.

I grabbed a quick shower, washing off the sand and sunscreen from our time at the beach, and wrapped a towel around my waist before peeking out of the bathroom with a chuckle. She had definitely startled me that morning…

I didn’t know who was more startled, her or me…

My heart rate had gone crazy, my mind had gone blank, and all I knew was that it wouldn’t have been my ideal way to be naked in front of Abbie.

I threw on a light, button-down, short-sleeved shirt, a fresh pair of shorts, and my sandals, stuck my phone and wallet in my pocket, and headed downstairs. Abbie was in the kitchen in her blue tank top and jeans.

“Are you sure you want to go out tonight?” she asked.

“Of course.”

“Okay.” She didn’t sound so sure.

I grabbed a water from the fridge and opened it, taking a sip before setting the bottle down. I noticed the brochures I’d brought back were still in the same spot on the counter. She probably hadn’t had time to go through them yet. I wanted her to pick where we’d go. I wanted to go wherever she was inspired. “There’s supposed to be a great little restaurant and bar not super far away, outdoor dining on a large patio overlooking the street. We can catch some live music, maybe stick around for the fireworks, if you want.”

I brought it up on my phone and showed her the listing.

She smiled reading the info.

“Okay, and it looks like it’s near the big Christmas tree.” Her smile grew larger. She moved her phone closer and swiped the screen, before holding it out to me. “Maybe we can go by. I’d love to see some decorations.”

I looked at the screen. The little map on the corner showed it fairly close to the bar. Definitely within walking distance by my estimate.

“Absolutely. Do you want to go there first?”

She shook her head.

“I think I want to see it at night, all lit up and gorgeous.” She took her phone back. “Maybe go for a drive first?”

She bit her bottom lip for a moment as she swiped through something on her phone then tucked it into her jeans pocket.

“You just want to enjoy the air conditioning.”

“It is really hot out…either that, or I’m just way too acclimated to freezing in December.”

“It’s hot.” I looked around. “You all set to go?”

“Now?”

“Why not?”

“Am I okay like this?” She looked at her jeans and tank top.
