I’d done a quick search on my phone last night before the wine bottles had made an appearance, and I had to admit, I couldn’t wait. Dominique or no Dominique. Just the chance to be in the peaceful water, alone with my thoughts…well, maybe better off alone with my camera and the abundance of colorful fish.

Lucas took another turn, and a few moments later, we found ourselves in a parking lot. He took a spot near the path to the beach and parked. I sat there looking out at the water I could see even from here, the waves gently rolling in the distance. The dock looked empty of people, a handful of boats bobbing casually on the water. Maybe there were more than one tour boat going out this afternoon, I mused. Maybe Dominique was going to be scheduled elsewhere. Too bad, I thought as I mentally crossed my fingers.

Lucas took the fob from the ignition, stuffed it in his shorts pocket, and looked at me with a grin. “All set?”

I undid my seat belt then leaned forward, picking up my tote bag with the essentials for the day—camera, batteries, spare SD Card, sunscreen, baseball cap. “All set.”

“Ahoy...”

The woman in the bright red string bikini walked towards us with a confidence I’d only assumed existed on fashion runways.

I stopped in my tracks on the dock, the wood warm and sun-kissed beneath my bare feet as Dominique appeared on the large boat to our left with a wave.

Apparently, she had forgotten her clothes.

I shielded my eyes from the sun even though I had my sunglasses on.

And blinked.

Then blinked again.

No such luck it was a mirage.

I looked at Dominique.

All of her.

Because really, there wasn’t much covering anything.

She might as well have just been wearing a set of pasties. I wondered if she was expecting Lucas to put money in the band of her thong.

Heck, I would if it would get her to put some pants on.

Because I was seriously doubting there was much material covering her backside if she turned around.

Lucas looked at me. “What?”

Argh.

Men.

He walked back to me. He must have kept walking when I’d come to a stop at the sight of her.

I didn’t know if I had it in me to keep up with this. I just knew she was watching us with interest.

“Never. Mind.” I turned on my heel and headed back up the dock. I saw her do that little finger wave again. She totally knew what she was doing. In another life, that would have meant total war.

Not in this one, where I was relegated to the friend zone.

Lucas was predictable about one thing. He really wasn’t the type to settle down. He’d be the same way when we were thirty, hell, even when we were forty, I was sure of it. Maybe I should have come up with the idea of one of those weird pacts—if we were still single at thirty-five, we’d get married.

He caught up to me. “What's up?”

“Evidently, not what Dominique was hoping for.” I snickered. He shook his head, but I could see the amusement in his eyes. “Look, you guys go snorkeling...and whatever...and—”

“I booked the snorkeling forus. Foryouto take pictures.”
