We’d been best friends for so long that the thought of there being anything more between us was worrisome. The fact that I could lose him over something so...just wasn’t worth it.

It never had been worth it.

Until I’d seen something in his eyes directed my way that I hadn’t seen from him before.

Or at least, I’d never admitted I’d seen before.

We surfaced a little while later and swam back to the boat.

Terry was waiting by the stairs to give us a hand up and take our snorkeling gear.

“How was it? Did you get any good shots?” he asked me as I handed over my goggles and he helped me over to the bench in my fins.

I sat on the bench with a big grin, slipping my fins off. “I think I got a few good ones, yes, and a lot of amazing ones. That water...” I shook my head. “I can’t describe it.”

He laughed. “I can take you on a tour a bit, if you’d like?

Lucas was wiping his face with the towel opposite me. “Up to Abbie...”

“Of course, I’d love to see what else there is.”

I took the sunscreen Lucas tossed me and reapplied it to my arms and legs before slipping the T-shirt over my wet swimsuit. It would dry eventually, I mused, as I put my flip flops back on and headed down the deck. Lucas moved close behind me.

I glanced at him as he swayed a little. “Seasick?”

“Nope.”

His hand rested easily on my hip as we looked out at the water as the boat moved.

“Let me see your photos,” he said.

“I haven’t even seen them.”

“Then we’ll see them together.”

“The screen’s small.”

“It’s big enough we can both see.”

He wasn’t going to take no for an answer, at least not easily.

“I’ll make you a deal. When we’re back at the villa, okay? Then I won’t have to worry about the camera falling overboard.”

“Okay, deal. But I’m holding you to it.”

“Fine, but…”

“What?” He searched my eyes for a moment, before putting his hand over the camera.

I sighed. “Terry mentioned something about everyone getting together for dinner later…”

“And you don’t want to?”

“Yeah.”

“Then we have plans…” He shrugged. “Done.” He tapped my nose. “Now I’m holding you to those…and I think we get pizza tonight.”

“Deal.”
