“A fact I’m already aware of, thanks.”

He turned and walked away. I closed the door behind him, laughing to myself. He never changed. And I never wanted him to.

The way he was proved amazing and adorable and everything else. Someday, some woman was going to be extremely lucky to get him to stay interested for more than a handful of months at a time.

I sighed, walking into the closet. I set my glass on the counter, grabbed some clothes from where I’d set them, including the unworn red bikini he’d given me, and headed back to the bathroom.

I smelled like coconut the moment I stepped outside on the patio. I’d covered myself in sunscreen, what with the sky bright and clear, not a cloud to be seen for miles. I had a fresh blue striped beach towel with me from the linen closet and headed down to the water. Lucas wasn’t at the pool area or near the guest house, but I could just see him crouching down by the sand on the private beach.

I made my way down the small path.

“Hiding on me?” I called.

He looked up. “Just getting it all set up.”

I looked. Two large beach towels, a small cooler, wine, wine glasses, and a tray of little rolled sandwiches. He’d really thought of everything.

“You do good work.”

“I try.” He held his hand out, motioning me forward. “I even have a new playlist on the phone.”

I made my way over, setting my towel down next to the setup and took a seat. The towel he’d put out was already delightfully warm from the sun. I rolled up the extra towel I’d brought and decided to use it as a pillow before leaning back against it.

“When can I see your pictures?”

“Of what?” I asked, taking a sip of my coconut water.

He slid his sunglasses down his nose to look at me. “Uh, everything? You’ve been snapping away...I’m surprised you haven’t gone through an SD card.”

“Already have,” I admitted with a grin. Actually, one and a half, but I was keeping that little bit of information to myself. I’d honestly never expected to take enough to fill a quarter of a card, let alone a full one. Plus there were photos on my camera, too, that I hadn’t counted. “Maybe later. I need to go through them first.”

“Why? Accidentally snap a nude selfie somewhere?”

I blushed, keeping my gaze firmly away from his. There was no way I wasevergoing to admit to that little accidental photograph I’d snapped of him.

“Ha. No. I just want to make sure they’re good before anyone sees them.”

“One, I’m not just anyone, and two, they’re all good, and how do I know that? You took them.”

“Careful, you’re being nice.”

He pushed himself up.

“I’m always nice.” He handed me his phone. “Pick some music…I’m going to hit the water. Join me if you want.”

“I’m good…” I nodded. “I’ll just watch.”

Lucas and water were a temptingly dangerous combination the last twenty-four hours.

I watched him dive into the ocean, the waves rising up to meet him as he swam out deeper into the water. I watched him for a few minutes then leaned back and closed my eyes. Photography was still a private thing to me right now; I didn’t have my computer to go edit on before I showed him.

But it was Lucas.

I trusted him with everything…

I just needed to know I could trust him with my heart.
