The words tumbled out of my mouth before I could stop them.

His eyes immediately opened, and he raised a dark eyebrow.

“Are things about to get awkward?” he drawled, his eyes slightly amused as he looked at me sitting there in my matching towel across from him. “I mean, we are just in a couple of towels.”

“Let me see, I’m in a towel, sharing a sauna with a rock star. What do you think?” I shifted slightly on the bench, tucking the towel even closer around me, breaking the look we were sharing, my heart suddenly gone erratic.

“So no more awkward than they were say…seven seconds ago?" The sexiest smile played across his lips as he chuckled.

My stomach flip-flopped. The man liked to tease. Maybe even lived to tease.

“Not only talented, but oh so funny. If this music thing tanks, you can do comedy.”

His dark eyes lit up in amusement, and he grinned before breaking out into a sweet laugh. “New career path, awesome.” He sat up and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “So what finally gave me away? I’m dying to know.”

I shifted. “Dean…”

“Can’t be the name, you didn’t clue in earlier. And I really tried my damnedest not to sing along to the radio. So…” He looked down at himself. “What precisely was it? Because I’ve spent half the time you’ve been here waiting for that awkward moment to unfold…”

“Seriously?”

“Yeah.”

I sighed. His stare was intense, but playful. I didn’t know how to describe it. And there I sat, completely naked except for the towel around me. I had a feeling he wasn’t going anywhere until he had the answer. I lifted my water bottle and pointed it at him. “The guitar tat,” I said at last.

He looked down again and nodded. “Figures. It was the first tat I ever got and they say the first is always special.” He held his hand out. “Dean, rock star at your service.”

Chapter Five

I woke up for once without an alarm, without my phone ringing…without a care in the world. All in all, it was amazing.

I yawned and rolled over, still half asleep, tangled in the softest flannel sheets I’d ever experienced. I hadn’t bothered to pull the curtains the night before, which now afforded me the amazing view of the towering pine trees secluding the property from the mountains in the near distance.

It truly was a snow globe world out there, the thick white flakes still falling continuously down. Huge pine trees that lined the property were painted white with a heavy dose of snow, weighing the branches down. The sky still had that dreary gray of yesterday, the clouds seemingly low, like they could drop down and touch the tops of the trees at any moment. Not a hint of sunshine anywhere to be seen.

The perfect day to spend right where I was. Lazing the day away, nestled in the warmness only a bed could give.

I laid there, relaxed, letting myself slowly wake up on my own. I had nothing planned for the day, no alarms, no meetings, nothing. Just me and whatever I felt like doing.

I stretched lazily, fighting back another yawn. My senses were awake enough that I couldn’t fall back to sleep no matter how much I’d like to. My body was already craving its first strong cup of coffee, then I could see about making something for breakfast. There might’ve been a couple eggs in the fridge. I yawned again and forced myself from the bed, promising to make it later when I was more fully awake and caffeinated. But more likely, I’d probably dive back in for a long-needed nap before I ended up really making it.

I dug through my bag, pulling out a change of clothes before stumbling into the oversized bathroom. My tired reflection stared back—shaving was out of the question. I went through the rest of my morning routine, slipped the fresh navy tee on over the matching plaid pajama bottoms, and raked my fingers through my bedhead ’til it looked semi-presentable. Was my unexpected guest awake yet or not?

I kinda had to admit, it was nice having someone else here.

And her face last night when she’d realized who I was…

Priceless.

I’d laughed, enjoying the fact that, for once, I’d just been Dean. How long had it been since that had happened?

Forever.

I rubbed a tired hand over my face. Such a change from what my manager was trying to keep me from. I wasn’t about to rebound into bed with my ex, no matter how much she was likely hoping for it.
