Page 20 of Let It Snow

“Still aren’t drivable. Amazing how many people around here have snowmobiles.”

“There was a pizza place actually open?”

“Well, rather someone who can make pizza. They’re in the house directory app.” He shrugged a shoulder. “Almost the same thing, right?”

I wasn’t sure what type of magic Dean was using, but he asked and things happened even in a potential white-out blizzard. An hour later, another box of food arrived on the doorstep with no one in the driveway. I picked up the unmarked box and carried it in, setting it on the kitchen table.

Inside was some of the best pizza I’d ever tasted in my life.

We ate almost the whole thing, and some of the spicy chicken wings that were in the box, too. I finished off my glass of wine, happily relaxed while Dean polished off the last of his wings, Christmas music blaring through the hidden speakers somewhere around us.

I fought back a yawn, and Dean caught my eye with a grin and a chuckle. “You might as well head to bed if you want.”

“I don’t know if I can sleep, but I sure am relaxed.”

“Good. And don’t worry about the roads, I think you’ve got at least one more day of being stuck with me before you can think of venturing off.” He tapped his phone. “They’re expecting it to stick around for a while longer.”

“Goody.”

He leaned forward and picked up the wine bottle, then refilled my glass. “One for the road.”

“At this rate, I could sleep through tomorrow.”

“What better way to spend a snow day?” He topped up his own glass. “Go ahead, I’ve got clean up.”

“You sure?”

“Yeah. I’ll probably sit here for a while and listen to the music. Those leftover wings are still calling to me…”

I laughed. “Well, enjoy them. See you in the morning.”

“Night.”

I picked up my wine glass and headed back towards my room. I could hear him turn the Christmas music down slightly as I went on.

Who would’ve thought I’d be stranded with a verifiable rock star?

Not me.

Not anyone in the family group chat, either.

I closed my bedroom door behind me with a bit of a yawn and turned the lights on low, not ready for bed quite yet. I set my glass on the night table and went to pull the curtains back a bit to watch the snowfall.

A little while later, I’d made it through an episode of one of my favorite shows on the phone, but still wasn’t sleepy.

I switched over to my browser and glanced up. I hadn’t heard Dean go by to bed yet. I leaned over to the nightstand and put my earbuds in, before slowly typing his name in the incognito browser.

The page populated with various articles and info.

I scrolled down and stopped on the video results.

There was one dated a few weeks ago.

Should I?

My finger hesitated above it. Who’d know?

Just me.
