Never to be found again.

He was right. I needed saving.

As if he’d read my mind, a slow, sexy smile crossed his face, and he swam effortlessly, passing right by me.

“Water’s nice,” he commented casually over his shoulder.

“Very.” What was he doing?

Laps. The son of a bitch was actually doing laps.

He caught my eye as he went by again and grinned. “That was lap two if you’re counting. Come on, swim. Don’t let me ruin your night.”

“I’m naked.”

“I noticed.” He swam closer. “And I hate to break it to you, but I’ve seen naked women before.”

“I’m shocked.”

“So am I.” He stopped a few inches away from me. “You didn’t seem like the skinny-dipping type.”

“What type did I seem like?”

He shrugged, almost coyly.

“And now what type do I seem like?” I asked hesitantly.

He put his lips together then gave a slow nod. “My type.”

I couldn’t help the slow smile that crossed my lips. “Do you use that line often?”

“Never. First time…and it’s not a line, it’s the truth.”

He moved closer, almost closing the distance between us. My gaze caught on a drop of water trailing down his chest and followed it ’til it hit the surface of the water.

“I’m single, if you’re wondering,” I said, finally finding my voice.

“I…was.” His gaze dropped to my lips again, then slowly went back up to my eyes. “Wondering.”

“What about you?” I forced myself to ask. My little internet search had been the videos and nothing else. For all I knew, he had a dozen girlfriends all over the world.

Hell, he likely did. More likely did than didn’t.

“You were right, the other day.”

I broke our gaze, looking up at the ceiling high above us, trying to remember. “When you said I was trying to play shrink?”

“Right.”

“No girlfriend…”

“Right. She’s long, long gone.” His bottom lip stuck out in the slightest pout. “I’ve been single for months.”

“Poor baby.”

He wrapped his hands around my waist and lifted me up slightly in the water, pulling me against him, and I squealed, laughing.

“Ten and a half months single and alone, thank you very much.”
